Will strains his ears for sound of conversation. Listen roll DC 10 (1d20=20) He is able to make out what the  people are saying, and that they are a mixed band of men and women. "I 'ope Dr Asworth is all right, 'e shoulda bin 'ere by now with the others" says one, "Ah well, maybe Pym was being difficult" says a woman. Another voice chimes in "Come on you two, get this wood loaded, you know how important this is for our friends". "Oh yes, I'm sure they'll be so happy to be free of that ice. I know I would be!" says a slightly manic sounding voice enthusiastically. He can make out that there are five people in the group.

Olothoros goes back to the original site for yet another look round; he still finds nothing out of the ordinary. As he is doing this... back with the rest of the group... Lunk announces his intent to talk to the people...

As Lunk excitedly reaches the conclusion that these folks might be able to help, Gaius holds him back with a touch on Lunk's arm and a motion of "shush".

Will shuffles back to the main group and reports his findings (in unusual detail for Will) and rolls his eyes when Olothoros is not present. Although the elf does reappear and rendezvous with the rest of the group.

"Ah it appears that the big fire is how they are trying to break through the ice cavern" Gaius pauses "I can only assume these people are being controlled or influenced by something here to free this place. We cannot allow that to happen, we have already seen the type of evil in this place."

"Will, did these people looked armed or dangerous in any way? Do you think we could overpower them in direct confrontation? If so i believe we should simply present ourselves and even try to free them from any charm that might be placed on them. If not, then we need to eliminate them one by one until we have the upper hand. If these people are not acting on their own accord we owe it to them to save them. "

Gaius turns to the doctor " These are your people right? Why are you trying to free this city, you do know that demonic creatures from the abyss attacked us here and appear to live here!"

Will mutters something about, "Firin' questions at me," but sullenly replies that they didn't have weapons and armour. Undoing the doctor's gag, Gaius interrogates him, to which the doctor replies, "Yes they are my patients, please don't harm them! I don't know anything about demonic creatures; I have seen none. Surely you've seen the incredible scientific marvels of this city; these buildings are unlike anything in the world today! Our friends will be able to help us so much, in so many ways - their knowledge of the sciences and the supernatural is far beyond ours. If you could only open your mind, Master Holbrar!" He seems entirely honest in his zeal. "I was lucky that I stumbled upon the temple in my initial search here. It enabled me to see how much our new friends will help us."

"Giaus if everyone has this level of zeal I think we will be best served by cautiously taking them out. Lets search the other areas we have no checked and get back to these people in a bit." There must be some magical discoveries to make along the way.

"Olothros. I fear that they are potentially under enchantment. I understand scientific zeal and a thirst for understanding, but this blind support to an obviously dangerous ancient race is insane. There is no critical thinking going on here at all."  Gaius looks around the city sweeping his arm " Given the attack by the demonic heads that bit you, i can assume that our "hosts" are not inclined to the side of good. "

" I agree, we need to subdue them, if they are magically charmed we also have a duty to free them. However, our primary goal here was to find the two men. After that we need to get back and let the city know about this great evil here."  Gaius reties the gag on the doctor

"I can attempt to use my magical arts to dispel the enchantment on the group."

"Th...th...there's no critical yadda yadda yadda..."
"I...i...if you mean they're all full of rubbish*e I'll agree"
Will taunts Gaius

"no more than you Will, but since they could be charmed whats your excuse?"

Gaius smiles politely

i shouldnt enjoy this, but i have to find a way to keep him behaved


"But enough banter. How could we tell if they are under enchantment? And how would we dispell it. The forces that created this place may be more powerful to undo than our skills are capable off. "

"I think i will approach the group and say i was sent by the doctor to help them. You can keep watch for me and attack if it looks like they turn nasty. Im sure i can hold my own for a few minutes. "

"Lunk and Will should shadow you, just in case. In any event I have a scroll of Dispel that is at a slightly higher level than my own. It might prove useful." Olothros shows the scroll to Gaius "The magic may be the answer."

"Unless they are lunatics in the real sense.. we may have to fight.. either way these people are sick and really need help."

"Shadow?  that means be all quiet and sneaky-like, right?  Lunk can do that real good, watch me!"

"Lunk wait, lets all do this together."

Will rolls his eyes and prepares to hide and follow Gaius as far away from Lunk as at all possible. The other side of the square if necessary.
He does NOT rely very much on Lunks capabilities of sneaking is what I'm getting at here...
