I guess Will just about manages to throw himself out of the way of the shards?
Or must he be one step ABOVE the difficulty factor?

OOC: You're good. It has to equal or beat it, so you made it. Lucky old Will!
The questions we should be asking are these:
Does it have dungeons?
Does it have dragons?
Does it have transients who kill things for money?  Do you roll a d20?

OOC: You do know all four of us posted already :icon_wink: So......? :tip-hat:

Seems to me we've kind of reached "End of mission".
Will tries to surreptiously pickpocket one of the newly awakened victims. Mostly out of boredom and figuring they should be easy targets in their bedazzled state.

OOC: Sigh... the loss of so much writing...  :icon_tears: here goes a summary...

Upon the destruction of the crystalline altar, the inmates, staff and townspeople were freed of the mind control they had been under. Unfortunately, they remember everything that happened and some are somewhat traumatised by being made to do things they would not otherwise do. Dr Asworth apologises profusely for his behaviour whilst under the control of the creature, a faranth. He explains that the faranth were a highly advanced race who traversed worlds and ruled this land many thousands of years ago. Recently, some wok up and made their way down to the asylum. One of the inmates used the sewer grating to batter them to death and the doctor examined the remains.

You have found the two Mason family members that you were sent to find and they are both safe. No-one really knows much more than that they were building a huge fire to melt the entrance to the faranth palace and free the emperor and his minions.

Does it have dungeons?
Does it have dragons?
Does it have transients who kill things for money?  Do you roll a d20?

There are.. more of these things?

"Brothers what are we to do? We have no idea how many of these faranth are down here. An emperor and his minions sounds like an army we may not be able to beat on our own. "

Addressing the mob and his companions, Gaius thinks he has the first plan.

"We need to put out the fire, we cant free these things. We've seen what happens when just one is released and enslaves you all. We have no option but to protect others from this place and these.... obscene faranth"

What about Wills Pickpocketing attempt? He chooses the older of the Mason family members. If caught he'll claim to just have checked how awake and conscious they where...

A palace, sounds like a lot more of these beasts. Possibly some lore to be found as well.

Olothros nods in agreement "Yes, we must put out those flames." He turns his attention to the former slaves "Are any of you injured? Will those of you capable enough help us put out the flames? We may also need to do a search to make sure we are not surprised by any other of these Farnath creatures. Once we are sure that they are trapped we can head back and see about some extra help with destroying this threat. Does anyone know if the creature had a dwelling?"

Dr Asworth (after some rather upset apologies) assures you all that the ice is extremely thick around the palace and that it would take a lot more work to free the emperor. He is unsure how such a large fire could be put out safely, but thinks that if left to burn it would not melt enough of the ice to be a danger.

Will sidles up to the older Mason, and finds he has nothing but the clothes he's standing up in. He doesn't seem to have any pockets or pouches or valuables.

OOC: Any answers to the elfs other questions?

Could the doctor or anyone else still be under their control?

"I can try my ray of frost spell and see if that can make a dent in the fire."

Will, frustrated, Kicks the older Mason in the butt "Oy!! Y...y...you awake there old bean!?" he hollers. "G...g...got us a fire to stop yer know!" He laughs and skitters up to the rest of the party.

The old man looks angry and shocked and makes as if to thump Will. His son holds him back, "Eh, leave 'im, Dad, 'e's wrong in the 'ead." he says.

Jonathan looks wearily at Olothoros, "Master mage, i don't doubt your arcane might, but unless you can summon a snowstorm, I think the best we can do is shovel some snow onto it. We weren't very close to even the doors to the palace, from what the creature intimated, so I think the danger is minimal. I don't believe there are any others around, and nor did it have a sleeping quarters as such. Thank you again for what you have done."

He turns to Gaius, "Master Holbrar, how are the inmates back at the asylum. I can only apologise again for my behaviour. You cannot imagine the agony of betraying both my calling and my charges! And feeling willing to do so. The power of the altar was of such magnitude. Thank you to you all."

"Im sure your inmates are safe. Unfortunately you locked us in with them, and Pym being the unhinged soul that she is attacked us. Luckily we were able to restrain her. Hopefully she hasnt escaped the bonds we placed her in. "

"Brothers , i suspect we should leave this place, perhaps returning the Mason's home and informing the local authority to return to seal or destroy this place. We have done all we can here i think"

OOC alternatively we could nuke this place from orbit.. its the only way to be sure
