Fabian, you're going to mix 3 classes?!  :icon_eek:

Fabian

Whoo-hah! As Al Pacino might say. It's just trying to get the right 'feel' for the character, really. I was going to have rogue as one of them, but considering everyone has taken at least 1 level in it, I might not. Hmm...
The questions we should be asking are these:
Does it have dungeons?
Does it have dragons?
Does it have transients who kill things for money?  Do you roll a d20?

Jeepers! He'll be a bit good in combat then!  :icon_w00t: Is he a duellist type with that Dex and the name?  :icon_razz:

He is intended to be a combat based character with a few rogue-type abilities.  He won't be a duelist, though, as I think he'd be better sticking to just these two classes for a little while.  Besides, the pre-req for Dualist is a BA of +6, and at Ftr2/Rge2 he is only +4, so it isn't an immediate decision that needs to be made. :)

Well, if you're going Bard/stabby/stabby, why not just take the stabby levels in the same class? What sort of personality is your character going to have? If he's a smooth-talking, streetwise type, he might be better as my guy's partner (can't think of the word I'm looking for) but if he's more of a primal, barbarian type then maybe not. Though if we're starting off firmly established as a team, then the role could be more shared between the group.

My character is a straight wizard; I already pmed the stats to Balgin but might as well post them here.

Str: 10
Dex: 14
Con: 12
Int: 18+1
Wis: 8
Cha: 8

A tonne of intellectual stuff like craft skills and obscure knowledge, item creation feats, not so many of the traditional 'combat wizard' stuff.

Keeper, I think what Fabian means is are you going to go for a light-armoured weapon-finessing sort, as opposed to the traditional full plate and greatsword fighter?

Fabian

stabby stabby hehe  - that made me laugh a lot. Well, he has great strength of character and isn't street-wise per se, he knows lots of things and is able to make people like him in a genuine way. He's not a performer though and would feel a little uncomfortable at being asked to sing pub songs. I'm using bard to give him the inspiring ability and the skill set, rather than make him minstrel boy. It's weird as I can't think of a niche to pop him into to describe him easily...

Mr Teufel

Bard/cleric? Bard/sorcerer?

Fabian

Those were also possibilities I considered based on the taltos archetype.

Well, do you need to multiclass at all? The bard has a lot going for it; it's a very versatile class. If you want a fighter-orientated bard, then buy him a sword and a combat feat- you can wear light armour without messing up spellcasting anyway. A spellcasting focus? Emphasise the spells he's got, go for those sort of feats. A bit more shaman/healer- take cure light wounds; divine magic is rare at best anyway.

From Balgin's hints, it doesn't sound too combat-heavy, but I may have picked him up wrong.

Of course, this is just a suggestion from someone who really should be doing something constructive.

I've seen a 15th level character with levels in 9 different classes before (wasn't very effective but at least the guy got to try out all the classes he could due to alignment restrictions on a few of them).

Yes, fear my big muscles. They are so huge my body cannot physicaly take the strain of carrying them everywhere and I will die due to the huge disparity in my bodily system that really doesn't make sense!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think you might want to even that out a little bit mate :p.

Senor Vorpal Kickasso?

Nope, a guy I know (early 3rd Ed days).

Mate, if you're not even going to let people play the game according to the rules as written...

I'm having second thoughts.

Well, the character could be strong and dextrous, as befits a fighter-rogue swashbuckler, but he's not exactly blessed with endurance. It's not as if it's a dump stat- it's just average. My character's more min-maxed than his!

Just because someone's strong doesn't mean they're particularly good at running marathons.

I had to put up with a lot of 2nd ed players treating it as exactly that (with strength and dexterity both as high as they could get them and a really low con and when we pointed out how rediculous that was they'd just get into some leet metagame argument about how "if I go first and hit him then I don't need to be tough anyway").

Hence the jokey comment.

Don't worry about it (I'll just have fun watching your fortitude saves and stuff :p).

Anyway, it looks like three or four of you have got ability scores sorted. I'll tot 'em all up in a bit and see if anyone's got a point left over or has/hasn't applied any racial ability score modifiers and then we can move on to getting the character's set up a bit.

Alex, whichever way I look at it you've only spent 28 of your 30 points. Did you apply racial modifiers for a gnome already? If so then I'd need to recalculate it.

QuoteIs there a reason you're not using the standard stat order of : Str, Dex, Con, Int, Wis, Cha,?

A first draft of my character's stats:
Str 12 (4)
Dex 14 (6)
Con 10 (2)
Int 10 (2)
Wis 15 (8)
Cha 14 (6)

28 again. Looks like you've got two points spare too Mr Teuful :).
