I know there are downsides, but if it makes Balgin happier and leads to us actually getting this game moving, then sacrificing hit points or having a stricter alignment code or the need to sacrifice virgins in order to breathe fire doesn't seem like a big deal in the grand scheme of things, IMO. Come up with a background for your character, and then you and Balgin can have a chat about how best to represent him. If it means not using the class, is it a big deal? A multiclass fighter-cleric is still a holy warrior, even if they have no levels in paladin.

Balgin, just because it doesn't appeal to you doesn't mean it's a complete waste of space. The flavour is the stuff about being dedicated to the ideals of dragons and aspiring to be like them. If you want to replicate that with some other class combo, then fair enough. The class may not fit in your campaign setting, but surely a dwarf who wants to emulate gold dragons could fit in there somewhere?

Look, I've no real feelings on the class either way. I'm just getting fed up waiting for you two to come up with something interesting and different enough to appeal to CH, whilst fitting in with Balgin's ideas of what characters should be like. Surely you're both man enough to compromise for the sake of actually playing the game sometime soon?

Balgin Stondraeg

Right, I don't like the stupid "all magic comes from dragons" thing that Wizards of the Cost wrote into 3rd Ed. It doesn't sit with my world view and also doesn't make a lot of sense. I can imagine dragon cults but I wouldn't expect the cult leaders to have loads of magical abilities. I'm not sure why a dragon would want to be worshipepd (although we all know they like flattery). As the golden dragons are chinese dragons I'm not sure if that actualy fits in with the geographical area very much either (maybe the character's a foreigner).

I am compromising, that's why I haven't said no to this class yet (you should've seen the huge swathes of stuff I had to turn away :p). I think I'm going to allow it but I'm not neccessarily very happy about it and need to adjust the idea to make it fit in more as currently it's completely alien and out of place.

Balgin you should be happy with your game as should the players playing it. With that said I am just tired of all the wrangling for a game so I am bowing out of this one yet again and for the last time. We both have done plenty of compromising behind the scenes but neither of us is happy, so this one just wasn't meant to be. Good luck with the game guys.

Well, maybe he's a paladin of Bahamut, and the gold dragons he's seen are good-aligned versions of red dragons, as opposed to oriental style ones.

As I said, I've no real opinions either way. Having read the class description, I'd tend to agree with you- it does seem quite powerful, but at this point I'd rather just get the game off the ground, know what I mean? Sorry for the rant earlier- I get tetchy when I'm hungry, but the soup is rectifying that!

Balgin Stondraeg

Well we're still waiting for Rod anyway. While we're waiting I'll get equipment moving sometime tonight or tomorrow.

Mr Teufel

I'm truly sorry CH couldn't join us. Sometimes people's ideas are just not made to match.

Hmm. If Rod's having difficulties getting online at the mo, perhaps he could join the party later?

Alex

Well, if it's not meant to be it's not meant to be. Sorry you couldn't work something out, and for stirring the pot unneccesarily. Hopefully we can get on with things now. How much money roughly will we have to spend? I'm eager to get Ivor properly kitted out!

Fabian

Yeah, good idea as regards Rod.

Equipment then... anyone know how much an Eye of Vecna costs? i saw them going two for one down the market.  :icon_razz:
The questions we should be asking are these:
Does it have dungeons?
Does it have dragons?
Does it have transients who kill things for money?  Do you roll a d20?

I'm not very happy about it either :(. I think this is actualy the first time I've ever had a player walk away because I wouldn't let him play something. The fact that I wouldn't let him play more than a few somethings is making me feel a bit guilty.

QuoteHmm. If Rod's having difficulties getting online at the mo, perhaps he could join the party later?

Tricky, I'll just have to make it go really slowly to begin with as there's a bit of a cutoff point for people stepping in and out. All shall become clear soon.

Okay, while we're waiting for Rod you guys can get started on kit lists. I'd say everyone can have 3600 gold's worth of stuff (maybe as much as 4000 but that'd be pushing it). Don't go buying too much stuff. Expect to travel light (and expect to travel).

Now that kind of reminds me of something.

I am sorry I couldn't stay in as well guys. Balgin you had very set ideas for your game and that is fine. I have played a lot of the "norms" in the past and got tired of it so I was looking for something new that I felt would be a challenge and get me into the game.

Things worked well with Fabian's game because he actually even suggested a few things that would work for him (after letting me know what wouldn't work) and he also had a different system for XP that really made me want to give it a shot.

You know you did jump the gun a bit as I was looking at that class and trying to see ways of making it fit. You just sort of opted out before I could get round to contacting you again (since the pm's sort of spilled out into this thread).

It's ok Raphael. You had mentioned a few times in the thread about how silly it was or how much you didn't like the idea that I thought it best not to be in at all. I have always thought that a game should have a happy DM and players for everyone to have a good time.

Well feel free to drop in from time to time. I'm planning on openning a geust thread where geusts cam make comments or post various ooc stuff (maybe I'll just consider the ooc thread that's coming to be the geust thread as well but it might work to have them separate too).

Indeed-  ye olde majickal item shoppe here I come!

Balgin, am I allowed to buy more scrolls and the like? How would it work with items I could make myself, like alchemical stuff? Do I just buy them at the market cost, or can I have a Blue Peter moment and have some I made earlier? (all those craft ranks have to be good for something...)
