You can remove #1 on the for side, I don't use that to sway discussions on the forum.  :icon_wink:

In the end it is up to Balgin, it is his game.

Mr Teufel

Good to know, and appreciated. :)

BARIAUR RACIAL TRAITS
• +2 Strength, -2 Charisma: Bariaur are stronger than average humans, but their carefree
nature often makes them poor leaders.
• Medium-size monstrous humanoid.
• Bariaur base speed is 40 feet.
• Spell resistance 11 + class level.
• +2 racial bonus to Will saves against spells and spell-like abilities.
• Quadruped: As quadrupeds, bariaurs gain a +4 bonus on checks to resist bull rush and trip
attacks. They have a carrying capacity 1 ½ times greater than normal for their Strength.
They must wear barding instead of normal armor and cannot wear boots designed for
humanoids.
• Powerful Charge (Ex): A bariaur often begins a battle by charging at an opponent, lowering
its head to smash its rams' horns against a foe. In addition to the normal benefits and
hazards of a charge, this allows the bariaur to make a single bludgeoning attack that deals
2d6 + 1 ½ times the bariaur's Strength modifier.
• Darkvision up to 60 feet.
• +2 racial bonus to Spot and Listen checks.
• Automatic Languages: Bariaur, Celestial, Planar Trade, home region. Bonus Languages:
Elven, Giant, Sylvan.
• Plane of Origin: Often Arborea or Ysgard.
• Favored Class: Ranger.
• Level Adjustment +1.

I know I mentioned it before, but take a look at this from planewalker.com. It's not as big as the monster manual centaur, but for the purposes of the campaign, would it do? It allows a centaur-like character that isn't going to be overpowered in comparison to everyone else. All it takes (subject to DM approval) would be to say it's half-man, half-pony instead of goat, and justify the charge bonus as a trample attack rather than from horns, then switch out the languages for Sylvan and Common.

Et voila! The perfect mount for a gnome wizard!

Flippin' heck, and I thought I was going to get this game up and running fairly quickly without having to wade through loads of stuff :(.

Fabian

Balgy, in the end it's your game. We know how firm you can be! Flex those DM muscles! :icon_wink:
The questions we should be asking are these:
Does it have dungeons?
Does it have dragons?
Does it have transients who kill things for money?  Do you roll a d20?

Just because something is hard doesn't mean it should be avoided.

Do you say that to all of the girls, CH? ;)

Sorry about that - but if you're going to leave half of a pun hanging like that ...
:hal:

Fabian

When you leave it hanging then yes, what can you expect? Ooh, put it away, matron!

Indeed- it was just an idea if you were up for allowing it and CH really wanted to play a centaur. It's your sandpit, at the end of the day, so it's your call.

Well yes, it's my game but it's no game at all without some players to enjoy it with. I feel as if I'm constantly denying people stuff and not giving them anything fun yet (although when the gameplay begins, hopefuly that feeling of not giving you anything will melt away pretty sharpish).

I think I'm going to have to say no to centaurs and no to goat centaurs and ram centaurs. Mostly because it'll be awkward but also because I can't see him standing in the bar at the pub (they'd probably offer to rent him a stall in the stables and he'd get all offended) and he simply wouldn't be there at the beginning of the adventure (yes, it's going to start in a pub in a coastal town).

Quoteand CH really wanted to play a centaur.

Actualy he wanted to play a half demon or a half dragon. I've already said no to a lot of requests so far via pm and it's starting to make me feel stingey :(.

I've locked Raoul & Kiaphas' character sheets to give the rest of you some time to catch up a bit.

Keeper

If it makes you feel any better, I don't feel I've been denied anything at all.  I've been having fun so far, exploring and creating my new character :)

I've enjoyed all of the discussion of him, so far.  But I think I might have to tone down his name a little, it just doesn't match the skill set I've chosen for him - what do people think?

Fair enough-I'm due to sit my exam this afternoon so I'll get the character done up tomorrow hopefully (unless the post-exam celebrations/sorrow-drowning goes particularly well ;) )

Would a tiefling do CH/be acceptable for you? It'd give him that flavour of something odd/demonic without getting carried away. Regardless, I'll drop the whole thing, and get back to dull, dull ENT.

See you tomorrow!

Half demon. All those made up 2nd ed tanaariusabaat names are just there 'cause a laod of right wing christians complained that the old Monster Manuals had demons and devils in them (and would turn us all into devil worshippers). It's like how they changed hated enemy into "favoured enemy" in 3rd Ed to be all PC (and everyone knows political correctness is a load of crud*, intentionaly going out of your way to insult somebody on the other hand, that's another matter).

I already turned down half demon as his first request due to something which will only become clear later and I don't want to start dropping spoilers yet.

Fabian

I also wuv my character, I don't want him to die a senseless death   :icon_tears: Heroic, cool death is fine however - "No, my friends, I must contain the power of the Gem of Tamazipan while you escape! Now go!" It's been fun to discuss him with you guys as well, and Balgin seems fine with my somewhat unusual backstory which is nice.  :occasion14:

I actualy haven't looked at it yet (been busy with stuff like the boiler and checking skill point allocation first).

Fabian

Ha! Okey-doke, your boiler is more important. I suppose.  :icon_wink: Hope you get it sorted.  :icon_evil:
