OK, just wondering, where do you guys get all these funky races and classes to play? I only own Players Handbook and the Monster Manual 1.

Squig

I have almost everything ever published and most in PDF format. If you need anything just end me a PM.

Okay, so just for my reference:

Mike, intersted, dwarf fighter type (Trollslayer type)

Chrysalis, interested

Eyeolas - maybe interested, sneaky thief type?

Fabian, maybe interested

Squigface, maybe interested

My mate (no account yet) definately interested.

I think we'll go with a 32 point buy for character creation.

Sounds like a plan I can start playing with stats now. Just 32, can we get a few more points? :icon_wink: When we do points we start at 8 or 10? It sounds like a nice sized group.

No. 32's a lot but it'll be very dangerous. They start at 8 (so 6 points for a 14 etc).

Ah, found it:

QuoteAll start at 8 (but can go lower if you want) then take another 30 build points (because I'm generous) to add on top. Remember, however, that a 15 or 16 costs 2 build points, a 17 costs 3

So an ability score of the following costs the indicated ammount of build points:

8:0
9:1
10:2
11:3
12:4
13:5
14:6
15: 8
16:10
17:13
18:16

I'd like to point out that if you spread them evenly you'll get a massive 13 in every ability score but that that wouldn't lead to a very interesting character.

Fabian

Y'know... I'm seriously considering creating a real old school style human cleric... or maybe an elf fighter/magic user/thief (as we used to call them) - of course, back in the day, the latter was teh awesome roxxors but now would be a rather underpowered character if leveled willy-nilly.
The questions we should be asking are these:
Does it have dungeons?
Does it have dragons?
Does it have transients who kill things for money?  Do you roll a d20?

Well since the adventure was originaly written for 2nd ed characters Old School character designs will fit in better (you know, the ones that don't specialise at low levels but wait a bit and do it as they develope).

What are all these points for?

Don't worry mate, I can talk you through it at the time. It generaly helps if you've got a rough idea of what sort of character you want to make.

Squigface

Human/Half-Elf Cleric mate ;) How much Gold/Equipment do we start with?

So you're going to want a wisdom score of at least 11 then. You'll probably want a bit of charisma too (for turning & preaching & stuff).

So Str 8 (0 points)
Dex 8 (0 points)
Con 8 (0 points)
Int 8 (0 points)
Wis 11 (3 points)
Cha 9 (1 points)

That leaves you with 28 points more to spend. Which ability scores would you like to be high and which aren't so important to you this time round?

I also haven't decided on a specific setting yet so we can discuss the religious affiliations of this young priestly acolyte as the characters develope. I haven't decided on money and starting equipment yet either.

Squigface

Skills, hmm what about:

Heal

Knowledge (Religion)

Consentration

Knowledge (Dungeoneering)

Search

Sense Motive

Spellcraft

Swim

Bluff

Anything vital I'm missing here Balgy?

Erm, yeah, you might want to finish ability scores first, you've got 28 more points to spend :p. You might want to wait for the others to catch upa  bit too (whoever they are).

Fabian

Squig: you start with all ability scores at 8 and a pool of 32 points. The table Balgy has reproduced shows you the costs for increasing an ability score, e.g. Balgy's already started you off by increasing Wisdom to 11 (costing 3 points), thus leaving you with 28 points.
The questions we should be asking are these:
Does it have dungeons?
Does it have dragons?
Does it have transients who kill things for money?  Do you roll a d20?

And charisma to 9 (otherwise you'd have 29 points left to spread). If it's a clerical type I'd assume high constitution, wisdom and charisma (and being a half elf maybe an extra point or two on dexterity too) but it's your character so you do what you like with it :).

Fabian

Doh!  :Doh!: 28 +3 is of course 31. I should go to bed.
