I was really making that wizard for me. the party needed one and I felt like playing one in this game because of the treasures Balgin mentioned.

The way I see it a group needs:
a: frontline tank (my knight, chysalis' paladin)
b: secondary brawler (we have two front liners)
c: scout (john's beguiler)
d: 2 support classes (my wizard, squigs cleric)

Hi.  I'm the interested player.  I know Balgin from another forum that we both frequent, but I am completely new to roleplay-by-forum.  Be patient with me if I make bad assumptions.

If playing a wizard will cause problems, CH, I'm okay with thinking up another concept.

:welcome: to the forum Woojitsu. As for the wizard I will leave that up to Balgin. What types of characters are you interested in?

Depends on the decision re: wizard.  If I don't play that, I'd probably play either a Monk or some sort of archer (maybe Scout from Complete Adventurer if it's allowed; though, I don't have a copy of that book).  What race I play would depend on the class I end up with.

If you need the complete adventurer I can upload a copy of it for you.

Hail and well met Woojitsu. I think I'm happy to allow the scout class if you don't want to play the wizard. It's not as if you wanted to play a Warforged Half Dragon Psionicist/Ninja now is it?

Woojitsu

Actually, I have a concept kicking around in my head for a halfling who got it into his head that the manufacture and sale of magic items is a booming business that he'd like to get in on.  I don't recall ever seeing anyone play a halfling wizard, but I think it might work quite nicely.  He'd probably be a tallfellow halfling, as their closeness to elves would incline them more toward magical pursuits (and that plus to Spot would be useful  :icon_wink: ).

I had a friend look up Scout for me, and it appears that I remembered the abilities of the class incorrectly.  If I don't play a wizard, I'd like to play a ranged support character whose abilities tend toward obstacle avoidance (like enhanced climbing to better get onto a ledge for a clear shot, or maybe at higher levels minor divination spells to better target long shots).  Any suggestions?

Hi

Many classes fit that concept. Fighter for the extra feats, Ranger for Point Blank Shot series of feats, (and some divine spells later), all the way through Warlock, whose Eldritch Blast increases through levels, and is a versatile magical ranged touch attack. (Though Warlock can only pull a few tricks out of the bag, they can do so EVERY round. They can use Eldritch to see invis, fly, cast 'fireballs', bonuses to communication skills, etc. They also good using magic items, detect magic at will).
Ranger grants bonuses vs Favoured Enemy, and has more skill points than both Fighter & Warlock, & more HP than Warlock (D8 not D6).

Both Warlock & Ranger have pros/cons, but it's really up to you & the GM.

Cheers

I'm not happy with letting the warlock class into this game at the moment.

Oddly enough, the more I think about it, the more it seems to me that my non-wizard ranged support concept would best fit... a wizard.  Specifically an elf fighter/wizard headed toward Arcane Archer.

So, those are my options: a tallfellow halfling wizard with a focus on item creation or an elf fighter/wizard specialized in the longbow and area attack spells.  At this point, I'm equally attached to both concepts.  Which one would everyone like better to have in the party?

Custom_Hobby

Woojitsu did you think about a duskblade? or a warmage? Both are perfect for a fighter/wizard type.

Actually I think I'm going to scip this, I've got more and more work to do as time goes on, and I'm already in 3 (1 of which I dm) so I've got little time as it is.

It seems you're getting enough characters though

Balgy, do we haqve to buy realy basic equipment, like stuff not in the PH? I was wondering coz I thought my character would be more of a "holy doctor" type than a priest (only marginally mind) and one of the things not in the PH is a "medics kit" basically a kit with scalpels, bandages, medicinal alchohol, needle, thread and so on. Would I need to buy this?

Actualy that would be a healer's kit (first aid pack) but for the medical operation tools you'd need to buy an artisan's kit (tools of the trade).
