Funny isnt it how naughty dentists always make their one fatal mistake.

I went back and added a small bit about Olothros trying to calm Lunk down so that the patients will relax as well.

Please all take a read of the new combat section of the first post in this thread, your friendly local dungeon master  :icon_beer:
The questions we should be asking are these:
Does it have dungeons?
Does it have dragons?
Does it have transients who kill things for money?  Do you roll a d20?

Nice, I look forward to seeing how this one pans out. Is the block that is still covered on the map where the sewer lets out?

OOC: As far as I know she's still in her straitjacket. So? Never seen "Silence of the lambs?" A straightjacket aint no guarantee.
I know this headlong charge may seem to go against Wills "key of the coward" but remember that he is also very easily stressed and he just wants to shut that halfling up. Not really looking for a fight here.

I think you are right about the Jacket being no guarantee. i just think it would be fare if you could go again before her because no matter what she has to deal with that first.

As far as you Key goes I think this fits in with it well (but what fabian thinks is worth more), it is a sneak attack which is cowardly. I sort of compare it to Olothros taking the potions earlier in the game. He did it not to be a klepto as I joked but because oif his curiosity combined with his love of hios art. He wanted to know what they were and to find out as much asbout them as he possibly could. He went and did something dangerous by taking them because had the doctor noticed it then that would have set off a situation he might not have been able to easily deal with. I think it played into both of his keys and I think what you are doing fits into yours. Sorry for the ramble.

Sneak attack isn't cowardly in and of itself (it represents knowledge of how to hit vital spots) - a brave character can use sneak attack just as easily as a coward, it's the situation that counts more than anything eg. if my PC attacked an helpless man with a dagger from behind, that could be construed as cowardly, but if he used sneak attack in a duel with his nemesis it may reflect his training and skill. It all comes down to characterisation and description. I think Will attacking Gibs could be seen as either cowardly: Gibs is mentally ill and unarmed; OR as recklessly brave: Gibs is mentally ill and perhaps unpredictable.

Pym will act before Will in the next combat round unless she delays her action until later in the combat round; initiative reflects the speed with which someone has reacted to the situation rather than how much stuff they have to do; eg. I could rule that it would take her 2 rounds to undo the straitjacket (perhaps, that's not to say that I will rule that), but she'll still act before Will in each round because she reacted faster than he did to the changing situation of combat.

She's a mad person too, so she might not do the expected. Or then again she might.  :icon_razz: Same goes for the others. This is going to be a crazy situation, oh wait, it already is!

Er, that was a bit long.

Well, "Key of the coward" wasn't QUITE in style with Wills character. I want him to be careful certainly - and using all the dirty tricks he can but he's not exactly SCARED of conflicts (he irritates people all the time - on purpose - so he couldn't be could he?) but he tries his best to make sure that someone else gets the heavier hits.
If I ditch it do I take another key or do I get a time without any key (except the one remaining) or how does it work?  :icon_scratch:
Allways treat other people as the goal, not as the means.

If you drop the key which you are perfectly entitled to do, you get the 7XP straight away but no replacement key. You get another key at every odd level though. In fact I'm going to rule that exactly that happens.

Sorry maybe I am slow right now but you lost me with that one.

If Bodhi discards Key of the Coward, he doesn't get a replacement key straight away. He can only pick a new key when he reaches the next odd level (ie 5th). I should have phrased it more clearly.

I think you phrased it fine and I was just being slow. I got it right after I typed that reply. I wanted to ask about my own keys though. I think it ihas been easy for me to play up the key of curiosity but the other one hasn't really been one that I have been able to really figure out how to work for him. Have I actually gained any XP due to the key of the artist at all?

Is this the "out of control" thread, or is that the other one?   :icon_scratch:

Out Of Character thread, and yes the other one has gone outta control!  :icon_w00t:

@Mike, there hasn't really been an opportunity yet for you to use Key if the Artist eg. spending all your money on books on magic, or scribing a scroll instead of eating. You won't be presented with situations where you can use all your keys all the time, or if you want to get even more XP researching a magic spell from a grimoire that could fry your soul, for example. Lunk hasn't used Bloodlust yet, just because the right situation hasn't come up. If you wanted Olothoros to demonstrate that he couldn't be bothered with magic from an artistic perspective in, then you could drop the key.

The Keys are an experiment for me as much as for you so we can evaluate their usefulness in D&D once the adventures over, if people would like. I know I would value your opinions, as I definitely have mine!

I like the feel of the game thread. If it is fun to see how the everyone is playing their characters and also how every 'in character' is reacting to eachother.

I see what you mean and in order to make the right choice I need to ask you one more question then. Do you plan on making this a campaign or just a single adventure?

I actually do enjoy the Key system. I find it to be one that encourages role playing more and actually developing the characters personality. I am curious to see what you think of it?
