Hi

Ok - Grey Elves meke good Wizards (increased Int), but I've seen a few Dwarf Wizards as well.
Darkvision, bonuses to saves, plus that all important ingredient for wizards:
Greater Constitution!   :icon_wink:

Eg
St 10 Dex 14 Con 18 In 16 Wis 12 Cha 6 is 32 pt buy.
Wiz 1: Saves F 4 R 2 W 3  Hp 7 (or 10 with Toughness)
Spells Known: All Cantrips plus 6 1st lvl (high Int)
Dwarf bonus to saves vs spells, spell like abilities & poison, bonus vs trip, etc plus darkvision.

Motivation: Gruff, introvert 'booky' type wizard, dislikes 'real life' interventions into his studies. Reduced to adventuring to increase his spell repertoire.

Just one example, undoubtably many others.

Cheers

It makes me think of the Obsidian spellcasters of Earthdawn  :dragon:

Sounds good so far. I am playing a grey elf in another game (playthings of the gods on the forum). I sent Blagin a pm with a few ideas and wil se what he thinks.

Actualy you sent me two pm's but I haven't been in the right mood to respond to them yet :p. I've been busy making an adventure for Neverwinter Nights 2 (and it's coming along nicely). There's lots of fun stuff in there but I'm keeping it small (just a few areas and a simple quest) to keep my ambitions realistic but it keeps getting more complicated :p. I've made some lovely abandoned tunnels with caved in sections and pits in the floor and all sorts and now I'm dropping down grit, dirt, mushrooms and rocks all over the floor and it still looks too empty (I haven't even started on the lighting and shadows yet). It's all fun 'though and I'll release it when it's finished :).

Anyway, one option we could consider is just playing without a wizard and maybe having one join at a later date. I'm not too keen on players having multiple characters at the moment - not because of characters sharing knowledge but because one character nearly always takes a back seat and tends to not exist exept when needed.

Custom_Hobby

I wont have a problem with that. My multiple personalities helps when it comes to that :icon_wink:

I've rolled starting money for everyone. It's on your character sheets in the equipment section. Feel free to post an equipment list (either here or on your character sheets) and I'll update them.

I think my current plan regarding character sheets goes as follows: the first 3 posts in each thread (as currently written) are the important ones. After that the players can post updates which I'll apply to the main posts as relevant and then remove the update posts.

Custom_Hobby

Sounds like a solid plan especially since you said there is a lot in this campaign. Let me know what those races when you get a chance.

Ok well in the end I am going with a grey elf wizard. Balgin I need the starting money for him.

I'll start his thread soon. Don't you want to do his skills first?

Custom_Hobby

Those are done I am going to upload the sheet to the thread. I am stuck on a name though and would appreciate suggestions from everyone.

A word on portrait style: I haven't decided what type of portraits I want to use on the battle maps but I want to keep it consistant. What I'd really like to do is aim for an all colour "Fab Four" portrait style (and for those of you who can't remember that far back, I'm talking Larry Elmor, Jeff Easley, Clyde Caldwell and Keith Parkinson). I might go in a completely different direction and do all miniatures (so photo's of mini's heads). The mini method would remind people that it's a battle map. I might go with black and white pictures but I doubt it. I think coloured pictures would fit better into the maps.

What I don't want is a mixture of black & white, colour, miniatures and scribbles in various different art styles. I'd like to keep it consistant so things feel like they belong. Let me know if any of you guys have any favourite preferences but I'm aiming for a Fab Four art style here, not Dragonpunk (Lockewood et al).

I love all of the fab four, so I will start looking through their artwork for images I think fit my characters.

I've already got 3 or 4 images mentaly "reserved" for certain npc's. I'm going to struggle to find a dark haired man with an eyepatch 'though :(. There's a good eyepatch picture I can think of straight away but that man has red hair and this npc cannot have red hair.

We have another interested player so the wizard may be taken care of :).

ok, I missed this thread for a while (since page 3) so missed all of the details.

What classes have been taken?
what races are accepted, any monsters or non standard?
any themes to be worked towards?

I'm happy to join, but after Christmas (since I'm sure this isn't starting in the next week)

EDIT: I looked at the other character sheets, and I'm guessing good based, magic based, and relativaly standard races. How about a dragon shaman from PHB2?

What classes have been taken?

So far we've basicaly got a fighter, cleric, paladin and a magic user/thief (he's a wildcaster 'though). There may even be a second cleric. I reckon the group might need a pure (single classed, non specialised) wizard 'though. CH's has partialy developed a standin npc wizard for the group in case nobody wants to play one (and normaly no-one wants to play the cleric :)).

Quotewhat races are accepted, any monsters or non standard?

PHB races are okay (although half orcs won't be very acceptable in the rural area where the adventure takes place). If you want to persuade me to let you play a non PHB race then feel free. I'll say no to some stuff but certainly not to everything.

Quoteany themes to be worked towards?

Theme: a "balanced party" (the archetypal cleric, fighter, magic user and thief).

No, seriously, you guys can play what you want (so long as I okay it) but towards the end you'll need to start hitting the big bads with themed runs (as in "okay, we need to pump as many alterations as we can into this magic device for it to blow"). For those themed runs towards the end you need to be able to pump hundred of spell levels worth of the same school into magic devices whilst holding off attacking armies (or at least full units) so time is of the essence and specialised casters with opposed/forbidden schools could have serious problems there.

QuoteI'm happy to join, but after Christmas (since I'm sure this isn't starting in the next week)

Actualy it might be starting anytime between tomorrow and february. DTD is now at the point where I can start this one (since the early sections of Night Below can almost "run on automatic" for a slow build up while we finish Deathtrap Dungeon off).
