(Part 3) The Abbey on Guardian

OOC: Anything special about the metal I can see, being a dwarf and all, or does it just look like a solid ball of steel for instance?  "Silvery metal" makes me think of mythril anyway.
Also, is the Abbot still conscious?

Examining the sphere first, Rogan weighs it in his hands, trying to judge if it's solid or not and what metal it's made from.  If there doesn't seem to be anything more to it than a ball of metal, he replaces it in favour of the laquered box, which he opens gently. 

Presumably Naedath will be examining the scroll, though I could be wrong.

Alarian is eager to examine the contents of the box to divine any clue. Bardic lore yada yada, not that it seems to have helped at all...

Aurum looks over at his brother (while still standing next to the abbot), "brother does that thing open?"

Rogan nods as he continues to examine the outside of the ball.  "It looks as though it does," he replies, gently sliding back the outer rune-covered hemisphere with his thumb.

[Fabian]

Alarian regards Rogan's examination of the ball with interest, and asks "Do you know of anything like this? We could do with putting our heads together, as they say." He smiles.

[Keeper]

"Looks a bit otherworldly to me.  I'll leave it to you chaps who know more about such strange things."

And Raul moves to see if there is anything he can do for, or get the Abbot.

Alarian stares at the metal ball clasped firmly in the dwarf's hands and it seems to fascinate him. The writing engraved upon it's surface looks elven to him but he cannot tell when it was made or what it's purpose may be.  It is about four inches across and and appears to be hinged in such a way as to allow the outer casing to be slid back over the inner workings, revealing goodness knows what within. A hardened vellum tag, tied on with twine, bears the words "Site three. Connection with tower crystals (?). Writings indicate that the stones actualy absorb sunlight."

With caution Rogan slides the globe open and a circular hole in the surface of the globe is revealed. The inside of the ball is studded with thousands of tiny milky white crystals.

"The sun sphere" gasps the abbot, "it shines in the dark places." Poor abbot Olmaren seems very tired and needs to rest. He doesn't immediately seem to have noticed the questions he is being bombarded with. Naedath peers at the ball with marked interest before reaching for the box within the coffer. Openning it up he reads under his breath "removed from podium, transcript completed, copy held in archives" and, reaching into the box, he draws forth a stack vellum pages and bears them over to the table.

[Keeper]

"So, do we rest, as the Abbot here does before we go and find out what else has happened on this island, or should we get going?  I would favour the latter."
