Okay, nothing wrong with the actual paint job but can that sword actualy fit in that scabbard? That's one of the things that really pisses me off, when a sculptor makes something like a quiver that's smaller than the arrows the archer is holding in his hands or tiny "token scabbards" that are about two thirds of the size of the thing that's mean't to go in them.

Great colours there :).

I agree. Oversized weapons are just plain silly. Doing a scabbard that would fit a sword of that size would be even sillier though. It would have to be about one and a half times the length of his leg and THEN what would the poor guy stand on?  :icon_wink:
I rather like figures with an element of exaggeration/charicature/comic book feel to them but I've never understood the oversized weapon fetisch. Weapons are frankly BOORING to start with - boring to sculpt, boring to paint, EXTREMELY boring to use for their intended purpose (especially for the victim) so why make something that is nothing more than a painful necessity in a wargaming mini even more obvious? Just goes to making it even more boring.

edit: Sorry, make that TWICE his leg. That sword really IS huge.

Darksword and Thuderbolt mountain do make some of the best figures on the market. The best sculptor out there does work for both (owns one). Plus IWM does the casting for DS as far as I know.

I'm always last to catch on to these things, not seen the Darksword stuff before!
Anyone know of a retailer in the U.K that sells the Darksword minis as singles (can only find boxes). The figs are lush but my finances are a little tight at the moment! There is a bard figure i HAVE to get for my roleplay character.

Did look at this as for my bard but he's not "tooled up" enough for me.

Trust me you will be very happy with the miniatures from Darksword!

Rackham are the worst perpetrators but unfortunately Kev really likes doing oversized weapons and shoulder pads which is a real shame since he does such good anatomy.

I'm in a state of shock caused by an overdose of filigree and anorexia. Rackham usually has that effect on me...

Yeuch! Nasty mini!!!!

Rackham do some of the best proportioned skeletons and undead though Bodhi....

Oh yes, and I like both the alchemists of dirz and the dark dwarves (can't remember their name). Love their goblins to. Everything they do that is caricature and comicbook is great. It's when they try to make "beautiful" and "elegant" figures that I feel that they really fail miserably. As - for instance - with their whole range of "elves" (Cynwael I think they call them...)

....but that is all. It is rare for me to find a miniature from them that I want to paint.

Reaper has a fare share of mini's that make me stop and wonder what they were thinking too, but on the other hand they have put out quite a few that made me spend money that wasn't in the budget.

Sorry about the thread hijacking!

Nice job on the paladin, and I like the highlighting.  If you just got a brighter picture, I might steal it for Cheddarmongers!

You still have an opportunity to improve that sword blade, but overall I'd be proud of that mini!

Nice save David! I was trying to gently push it back in the right direction when I mentioned reaper in my post.
