Did you grind him off of his broccoli base?

He looks really flat to me.  Maybe if you went over the blue areas with blue ink? then highlighted to white on the edges?  Perhaps the metals could use an ink wash, too, either chestnut, valejo smoke, or black ink.

Nice job, just a little flat.

I'd agree with Cheddar, your flesh tones are good I think you need to work on the tidiness and more highlighting.

Custom_Hobby

Yep, it is the highlighting.

Add some white to the blue and paint this on the raised blue bits, add more white and paint them again leaving some of the first highlight showing around each raised bit.
A blue glaze (very watery blue ink or paint) painted over it (wipe excess glaze off on a tissue before applaying).

Except for the dark picture.  Go back and take another picture!!  :cm

Don't be shy with the highlighting. You can always glaze over the highlights to bring them down again. The new version looks much better.

Much improved mate.

Now are you more happy with it as well.

Okay, nothing wrong with the actual paint job but can that sword actualy fit in that scabbard? That's one of the things that really pisses me off, when a sculptor makes something like a quiver that's smaller than the arrows the archer is holding in his hands or tiny "token scabbards" that are about two thirds of the size of the thing that's mean't to go in them.

Great colours there :).

cheddarmonger

Thats right, paint that sword smaller!

Eh, its the heroic mini proportions.  They have some degree of artistic license.  I think the Dark Sword minis are the best at proportional sculpts, but I don't think that they're very fun.

I'm much happier with it now, first time i'd tried using a glaze and wasn't sure how thin to make ink but it worked ok. Can see what people mean now about not being afraid of what looks harsh highlighting.
What i need to know is can you glaze any colour (i'm thinking black over grey highlights, does that work)?

:laughing6: I'd not even noticed how silly the sword/scabbard sizes were.

If the glaze is a bit thin then all you do is do more coats.  :icon_wink:

It depends on what effect your after, using black will darken the gray but if you use blue it will give it a blue tinge.

Darksword and Thunderbolt Mountain. Actualy there's a reason why I have most of the Darksword mini's. I like them (although I like the art they're based on more).

Custom_Hobby

Darksword and Thuderbolt mountain do make some of the best figures on the market. The best sculptor out there does work for both (owns one). Plus IWM does the casting for DS as far as I know.
