A short walk brings the group to the large hill that is the Southcrown. The hill itself is monumental in size (definately one of those large hills, not some small lumpy hillock) rising about a hundred and fourty feet at it's centre, but with some fairly shallow slopes (rendering it a very large hill indeed due to it's width). A few pine trees, and the odd oak or two, dot the hilltop and the gentler slopes near the top. Large boulders jut out from the turf like the craggy teeth of some giant maw.

On the near side of the hill lies the quarry, cut into the side of the hill with the surrounding area cleared of trees. There are a small number of workshops and the working areas have canvas covers erected over them. Large boulders and chips pieces of cut rock litter the area and a wide gouge has been carved into the hillside in order to access the stone that lies deep within the earth. Some scaffolding and ladders have been erected up against the work-face. Hammers and picks lie about, seemingly dropped where they lay, and a few wheelbarrows stand idly by, some with stone in them awaiting to be delivered to some now unknown workplace or other. Smoke drifts lazily from one of the chimneys (building a) and a pair of oxen contendly munch the grass on the hillside.

Aurum points with his Axe "lets head toward the smoke."

On a hunch I checked something and seriously corrected my post above since the quarry was visible and not oaround on another side of the hill. The player's map gives no indication of how absolutely huge this hill is and implies that you'd be coming at the hill from the east. In actual fact you are coming at the quarry from the east, and the quarry is on the northern side of the hill, but whilst the player's map would indicate that you are approaching the hill from the east, it neglects to inform you that the hill takes up almost a third of the island. I've attached a small section of the GM's map to show you how large this hill is and corrected my previous post by correcting the erroneous description of the hill and adding in the quarry's description since you can see it now.

"The building with the smoke does seem a good place to start."

Rogan nods and starts the trek to the quarry with everyone else.

It's less the smoke of a full blown fire and more the few faint whisps of smoke from the embers of last night's fire.

"There seems to have been a fire..." Aurum goes to explore the ruins that have been left behind.

As Raul realises that a fire burns within the buildingĀ  - he randomly changes direction towards one of the other buildings without mentioning it to anyone else.

I guess he's still pretty beat up.

Edited to make sense in the light of increased blood-caffeine levels.

Um... it's smoke from a chimney... Balgy didn't say anything about ruins...
The questions we should be asking are these:
Does it have dungeons?
Does it have dragons?
Does it have transients who kill things for money?  Do you roll a d20?

Custom_Hobby

So maybe I need my morning coffee like Dave. In that case he searches the building.

True enough but the ruins are marked on the player's map in the player handouts thread (but not by name).

The camp at the quarry is not ruined.

So the chimney smoke was coming from which building

I was getting confused - I thought I'd missed something (which is quite usual!) :icon_wink:

My original post assumed you were approaching the hill from the east and couldn't see the camp. I then edited it when I realised how large the hill was. Mike might have assumed the smoke (behind the hill) was coming from the ruins. I fixed the first post and hoped there wouldn't be any missunderstandings.
