The thickness of the musculature makes him look more cuddly than fearsome in my eyes. And I doubt that was the intention...
But it's undoubtedly well sculpted.

Yeah, I agree Bodhi, he lacks a certain something and the massive bulk of the muscle distorts his proportions away from being particularly intimidating looking. There needs to be more shape to his limbs they're a bit rectangular, they need to go in a bit at the joints and swell out again at the right places.

It's great from the neck down. That stupid dog head (with the cheeks, jaw and chin missing) and the club hands just make it look rubbish 'though.

And why should Orcus suddenly be red?

Actually i dont like it much at all.

It might be the chunky look that bodhi mentioned.  He looks like he's got a speech impediment and a major chip on his shoulder about it.

I agree with you guys that it is off. Congrats to the sculptor for being able to do it, but I think it is wrong for Orcus.

That Arnie Swekel picture looks way too cartoony and the bottom one looks too much like one of John Blanche's unfinished sketches (this time clearly of a chaos beastman with a really stretched out lower face - but it's a chaos thing so it can look ff'ed up :p).

The middle one's pretty cool 'though (despite the cartoony style the actual shapes and proportions are pretty good).

His huge gray body is covered with goatish hair

I'm still confused as to where this mid to late 2nd ed "red" idea comes from 'though.

There was a really good old black and white picture of Orcus lounging on a throne/just sitting down with a few succubus' draped across his knees playing with the fur. It might be in one of the only two issues of Dragon that I own (the best of dragon, volume 1), if it's not then I don't have it.

good old Orcus, its been years sense i last thought about him, we once used him as a patron in one of our games, dont like the revamp of him much though, kinda takes the fun out of him making him to serious.

If I have it, I know which magazine it's in. Unfortunately I've got no idea where that magazine is other than "in my room" at the moment and my room's rather full of stuff so I won't go looking for it much (I've got a few suspicions) but I'll keep an eye out for it as life goes on....
