Voted an 8 for ya Wristy, sorry I missed that post.  I think that fig you did is great but I like a bit more cartoony paint job for an Orcskin as afterall there is no reallife skin tone for an Orc so how can you get it lifelike or natural?  no one with green skin looks natural do they?  Even lizards and frogs which are mainly green dont have a set colour, they range from Dark Angel green to Scorpion Green.

Both those Orcs are superb though and a damn sight better than my attempt.  I have only painted one Orc and I couldnt get the skin right there.  Took me about 16 years to get Dwarf skin how I liked it so not even gonna think about an Orc lol

ok some more self indulgent piccies. On a suggestion from the manager at my local GW, we decided a wanna be pilot grot would add to the whole deal.

Very nice, one thing I would suggest early on is keep the colour's on the grot very muted. And do the lenses on the goggles in a dark tint.

The blue goggles on the Ork provide a great focal point, but the red phone (is it a phone?) and small red accents are already trying to pull the focal point downwards diagonally right to where the grot is. If you have even a small bit of bright eye catching colour the grot will become the center of attention, which I assume is not top of your priority list.

But keeping the grot dark will bounce the eyes back up to the bright blue.

Hope this helps!

Good point. although the idea was to give the grot comical 3d glasses where one is red and the other blue.

Ill try it, and paint it dark if it doesnt work. Thanks for the tip, i hadnt thought of that when i laid it all out.

I would still do them like that, but keep them darker than the red and blue used on the ork. Adding black will lower the value and mute them down, as opposed to adding a complementary colour to simply shade them.

ok i need an opinion.. Stick with where im going with this base, or go for the alternative of a light concrete colour with an imperial eagle stencil on it., then weathered with greens and browns.

I have done some marble effect on the lower left, although im not sure if i can pull it off for the whole piece.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
