Think you need to raise them a bit or maybe darken your shading.

I think Wristy is right on both counts. Go a little darker withthe shading and HE KICKS ASS!

for the red bits go for thinned orange then glaze with blood red for the highlights. The verdigris looks good but I'd avoid putting it on raised edges personally.

Are you going to add more colour on the gems? Tourquoise?
