Front Page and Photo issues

I am using Microsoft Front Page because it has a built in Photo Gallery tool. I make the page and notice that some of my pictures come up huge. I open my photo editor and adjust the size to a more reasonable size. I then over write the picture with the same name. I call up the htm file and the same result happens again. I wipe out the directory and start again thinking that there has to be some caching somewhere. I make a new page and use the gallery tool. I get the same problem on the same photos. I call up the photos again in the editor. They are the correct size except the editor wants to show them at 136%. I bring down the view to 100% and all is well.

Now is there something that Front Page is picking up on to make these images huge? If so how do I adjust it?

I will gladly except any help here because 2 hours on this one problem is starting to get to me.
Long term exposure to the Orb of Confusion will give you...er.. confusion!

I don't know much about FrontPage (well, not since v.1).   But I do know a little HTML...

It sounds like your gallery page is re-scaling the images using the optional parameters on the IMG tag.  IMG has both width and height as optional parameters, and if these are set to absolute sizes - it doesn't matter who much you re-scale, you'll still have a display problem on your gallery page.  You can probably access these using the properties box for the images on the gallery page (if FrontPage follows usual MS UI standards).

Might not be your problem, but this is my first gut instinct of what to check for.

If you think I could help further, please just ask :)

Frontpage is really heavy with proprietary code, so its hard to tell what is going on under the hood, but in any case, I'm sure that there's some aliasing there, so even if you give something the same name, those names may be pointers to objects, so you can't override whatever FP wants to do.

What's your objective?

Personally I'm happy with using open source software for online galleries; "gallery" at http://gallery.menalto.com is probably the most powerful and versatile, coppermine is pretty good, better performance than "gallery" but fewer features, and phpwebgallery at http://www.phpwebgallery.net is by far the best in terms of getting into the code and customizing the program, as well as great performance, but it cant be embedded into a CMS (and I can't read French well enough to ferret out the more extreme tech stuff!!)

Or you're welcome to just use cheddarmongers.org

I use Frontpage to do my webstuff.  Just right click on te image and select picture properties.  at bottom you can specify size of picture.  right click on the image after you've specified the size and select hyperlink, then just link it to the actual photo so that when someone clicks on the picture it comes up full size   :icon_wink:
