Hey, a bardic performer doesn't have to sing you know. They could be a drummer (I once played a half orc drummer who's drumming was so bad it gave people combat bonuses 'cause it pissed them off so much :)).

Fabian

Nah, I likes me singing and chanting I do; it's the instrument I can do without  :icon_cool:
The questions we should be asking are these:
Does it have dungeons?
Does it have dragons?
Does it have transients who kill things for money?  Do you roll a d20?

So what characters do we have so far, and what niche could I fill if I'm needed?  :icon_razz:

EDIT: So, we have a CC character, a rogue and a wizard.  I noticed someone talking about playing a druid too, and Fabian's going for a bardic type fighter.  Maybe a Cleric might be useful?  I'll hae a look tomorrow (day off, so more time on the internet) and see what I can do if you want.

We've got a gnomish wizard/inventor, a couple of military types with questionable backgrounds and criminal backgrounds, a bard who may, or may not, be multiclassing into a lot of other classes, and a "mad prophet" old man of the sea.

I think most of them are human but I'm not sure with the bard yet.

You'll find the most commonly worshipped gods in the World Lore thread (and I've even provided what little information on appropriate domains and alignments there was with the adventure in that thread too).

So gnome is an ethnic subtype of dwarfs in general? That's grand. Are they seen as a separate entity by outsiders (ie humans)? Or is a somewhat more detailed knowledge of internal politics needed to make a distinction?

Oh, I had a little google search for Char Endl (first word from the glossary that came to hand) and found this: http://www.comstar-games.com/downloads/encyclopedia-eldoria/eldoria-maps.php

I think it's a collection of maps from the setting, which may or may not be useful to you.

You're right. That does look like the maps. Good find. But as I'm adapting it a little bit now (changing a few names) I think we're entield to consider it being slightly different in some ways.

Ah, so Sard was further west with Elkia being further east. That's the impression I got (with the Elkian eastern european feeling). I was right about the sea with the countries round it and a large ocean to the south. Looks like I managed to understand the glossary very well :).

I've actualy got some lovely (incomplete) maps on hex paper depicting Drechanon, Urmesh, Acharia, Harsemia, Thule - the frozen north. a hobgoblin mongolian wasteland, an oriental kind of coastline and a few other bits and pieces too.

QuoteThink grittier than Enya

So, Bjork then? Or maybe that gravelly scratch crud* Billie Piper used to do (and a certain pop star called Britney does because she thinks it sounds sexy (when it actualy makes her sound like Sid James on hormone replacement therapy) when she's actualy got perfectly beautiful singing voices she could use instead).

Alex

So who all is there?

Ivor, the gnome wizard

Kiaphas, the former rogue turned druid

Raul, fighter/rogue

[Fabian] bard/?stab

[Rod] ?

Am I missing someone, or is my reading comprehension slipping?

Anyway, Rod, according to some of Balgin's background, clerics are very rare, so I'm not sure if Teufel's druid has the market cornered in divine spellcasting. Maybe some sort of different tank, or a ranged combat specialist? Other niches... maybe a much more 'supernatural' mystic type of spellcaster? Like a warlock or sorceror. As my flatmate says, you can never have too many fireballs! There's nothing that's glaringly obvious, so anything's probably fair game.

PS glad they came in handy, Balgin. Looking forward to getting this off the ground now!

The Cuh, The Evil Tipex and one or two other people have expressed interest but haven't really posted since. I'd say 5's probably a good group size for the moment (although I'd be willing to push it to 6 if one of the interested parties started posting again).

QuoteAnyway, Rod, according to some of Balgin's background, clerics are very rare

Cleric as a character class = rare. Cleric as a vocation/way of life, nowhere near so rare. So lots of acolytes and stuff will actualy be level 1 Experts (with a lot of skill points in knowledge skills, especialy religion).

Quoteso I'm not sure if Teufel's druid has the market cornered in divine spellcasting.

I don't see him being very clericky, his spells are most likely to do other things (and I can see how the earlier sections of the adventure would be sheer hell without a cleric).

QuoteLike a warlock or sorceror.

Bad word, bad word. The warlock "class" is so front end heavy and badly balanced as to be basicaly broken. I mean, what other class lets you do magic damage of an unspecified type (so even energy resistance is useless against it, exept you can make it a specific energy type at which point energy resistance suddenly is worth having) every round at level one (thus bypassing any damage reduction). That's just seriously broken and I don't want to touch it (although I am determined to play one sometime to see if they're as badly broken as they look on paper). The warlock is to the sorceror what the sorceror is to the wizard. By that I mean that the warlock's such a one trick pony he actualy makes the sorceror look as versatile as a wizard looks when compared to the sorcerous magic missile machine.

When I say that Char Endl (soon to be renamed something apropriate) and Drechanon use a norse/saxon model I'm referring to historic norse/saxons, not hollywood 1950's bs.

Mr Teufel

I'd second the vote for a "real" cleric, or at least a character with some cleric levels. If I have to spend all my spells on healing, I'm not going to be much of a druid.

Fabian

I have access to one (count it, one) cure light wounds spell per day  :icon_razz:

Alex

Yeah, how much more healing will we need?  :icon_cool:

A proper cleric would come in handy; especially if we're going tomb-raiding. Archaeology=undead, generally!

Rod the Worm

That's what I was thinking - it's always a good idea to have a healer in the party, especially considering we have a number of fighters, one of whom isn't exactly going to be a stack of hitpoints.

I'm thinking maybe a member of one of the Esmian orders (a kind of paladinish character, but more in the vein of travelling around standing up for the oppressed and helping the needy than smiting the infidel).  Since we have lots of humans I'll throw in the suggestion that I play a dwarf.  I like playing dwarves, and it'll be interesting to do one that's less martially inclined than my Barbarians or Dwarven Defenders.  The Relenting Hand order may still be more appropriate though, as I doubt dwarves tend towards pacifism and I equally doubt that the others will appreciate my continually asking if they could find another way to resolve the situation than violence - especially when it's a charging, raging troll  :icon_razz:

If that sounds OK I'll put him together tonight?

Balgin Stondraeg

WTF? Who unstickeid all the character sheets? It wasn't me. Do I now have to resticky them everytime someone posts in them? That's going to be seriously annoying :(.

If you do want to play a dwarf let me know and I'll give you the dwarf lore (since I'm superimposing/transplanting the dwarfs from my home campaign since the dwarfs in this world barely seme to exist, and yet have taken a major part in two serious historical events. So I can apply all my dwarf stuff to them. I'll PM you a list of useful stuff to bear in mind when creating your character and we can go from there, okay?

Custom_Hobby

Is there a specific character sheet you want us to use?

Balgin Stondraeg

Erm, not yet. I'm writing plain text ones (each character sheet gets it's own sticked thread) and if I then find something I like later I'll tot it all up that way too.
