Had a amusing tale of heroism and magic on sunday night.

Took my wife out for dinner to celebrate our 6th year anniversary. We parked near the restaurant, going to cost me $20 for the night... grrr. oh well, not every day you celebrate your 6th year anniversary.

Lovely dinner, a patient of mine was the waiter (purely coincidental) so that was cool... so naturally i felt obliged that a tip had to be done... Australians DO NOT TIP ever... im explaining why this is a big deal.

So my wife and I decide its time to go home. Suddenly we find the exit to the carpark closed.... crud*. Luckily the entrance is still open, so we can get to our car. We didn't check the closing time. 9pm.... its now 10.30pm. We thought it was the same as a saturday.. so therefore open till 2am.

IT IS A $100 CALL OUT FEE TO RELEASE THE CAR!! (multiple profanities)... i do the math.. its going to cost at least $50 to get home, and then there is the matter of getting the car tomorrow, and more taxis...

Bugger... its cheaper to pay the extortionists... or is it.

The Barina i drive (think Opel in europe) is small car. The boom gate at the entrance was just a bit smaller than the car. Hmmm... is it worth scrud*ing the paint. I see if i can force the boom gate.. no luck. Then I pushed up on the tip of the boom gate which is separate to the main bar.. huzzah.. it tilts 45 degrees and i ease the barina through the gap with my wife going " its good its good its good, go go go...."

Picture a Barina flying out of the entrance ramp at top speed.... hoping there isn't a car deciding to enter late that night!

Man i hope there wasn't a security camera.

Just so long as you weren't having a sword fight a la Highlander. Great story!
The questions we should be asking are these:
Does it have dungeons?
Does it have dragons?
Does it have transients who kill things for money?  Do you roll a d20?

cheddarmonger

Bah, used to do that all the time in my '66 Dodge Dart...  :cm

Great story!
Nevermind me, I have a cruddy banner, so please click HERE for Cheddarmongers!

Good job, parking fees take the piss most of the time so glad you got 'round it!

The advantages of having a small girly car!  A successful person might drive a BMW or mercedez... a smart one drives one that gets out of paying parking fees!!  :icon_w00t:

No a successful one owns lots of cars.... and often gets someone else to drive them for him...

Person I was looking at last week had an Audi, Jag, BMW X5, ferrrari, porsche all with personalised plates  all bought new within the year.

And no he wasn't in the car trade.

:icon_suspicious:  often they just buy cars to show off their wealth rather than practicality or enjoyment of driving.

I have a peugeot estate.. practical.... And a Lomax 224.. fun to drive.... :icon_w00t: (no I'm not successful it "just happened" one day, my car previously were a peugeot 306 (3 years), a Lada Samara (9 years) cavalier estate (6 weeks) vauxhall chevette(s) 6 years, Mini 3 months)

its one of these in cream

It only has a 600 CC engine, and the fastest I have had it is 75.(too much wind in your face to go faster)

SWEEET .. nice ride bungle..

However in the above circumstances... i still would have escaped, you would be stuck with a $100 parking fee! lol

But it would be worth it to drive that beast!

It would be that low it could go under it no problem.

I had a Lada Samara, it was a great car to drive and also had steel plates protecting the bottom of the engine.
I did have problems with it after a few years and me and my dad worked at it but couldn't find what the trouble was till just before i sold it.
One of the springs of the twin valve carb was missing and it was running on only one...  :icon_sad:
If not for that i would have kept it longer but was really sick of it by then so changed my car.

great car to work on too. My previous cavalier was stolen and burnt out 6 weeks after I got it. I wanted something that was no fun for joy riders and not a very high resale value to "ring".

The Lada did me proud for many years, only broken into twice in the 9 years I lived in a war zone. Electrics were terrible.. anything plastic was terrible, but it was built like a tractor and the engine ran forever. I only got rid of it cos the floor rusted, because the seals went (due to a break in). And those jokes about the type of car being male substitutes picked me up my wife LOL.

why do i imagine you driving the car in the picture going "poop poop'?? lol

:icon_redface: the car came with a flying hat and gogles  :icon_w00t: I normally force isitors to wear them after they have climbed over the sides to get in (no doors)
