Well I thought I would post something here about the terrain we did for the Salute game...

Overall view of the game

Collapse bridge/flyover from MDF
Cliffs from pine bark and cork bark, over a blue foam base, with tile grout between the cracks , and cement , gypsum plaster and sand thrown at it while wet. repainted a few times and repeated, with some stone effect spray on last.

gas/oil towers from scalescenes paper kits

Petrol station design from Zombie panic game, and made up with photo shop over brick textures

Terraced houses from scalescenes just enlarged alot.

Full houses in the middle made by Hetz properly (almost as the instructions say) but took ages
half houses made over a MDF box that I cut out, they are solid.

Silver building in the background made in about 4 hours from MDF, with thin cereal  box thickness card (I think I used comic backing boards)  and sprayed with chrome paint... then rusted up a bit. there was a neon light 4" long which reacted to sound and pulsed as a warning light when the inmates escaped.

Some Banksy Graffitti added to the end walls ( 6 bits over the whole board) just photoshopped

Party Kev Statue painted by Dagenhameast (Jon Atter)

Tom did a lots of the work photoshopping the tower block brickwork and getting all the stuff laser printed on A3 paper.

Mistakes.. must remember that people see the game from behind so the back of the buildings need to be finished off a bit.

Overall it was pretty quick for the size of game (4' by 12') but it would need lots more detailing and effort to look really good close up

Looks great from the pics.

What are your thoughts about PDF file terrain in general. Better for quick terrain? or looks good regardless.

Im wondering if its worth investing in worldworks or scalescenes stuff
Funny isnt it how naughty dentists always make their one fatal mistake.
Bye for now, keep your teeth clean

Hmmm, PDF stuff looks better if made in layers to give it some texture, which the printed surface doesn't have

Scalescenes is really detailed (those middle buildings have removable fronts and rugs for the floors and paintings for the walls) but rather fiddly.

World works look very simple and flat, and would benefit from layering on card, but are quicker to do

would recommended it for terrain for games you might play as a 1 off or if you have little storage space, but would suggest either making it over wood, or proper resin stuff for durability. And I think painted stuff is much more satisfying.

That is pretty nice awesome scenery you have there.  Looks like some kind of Car Wars terrain.  Was it actually used in a game?
Long term exposure to the Orb of Confusion will give you...er.. confusion!

yep it was used at Salute wargames show

Post apocalypse London, people brought along their gangs (at least 1 vehicle and gang members) plus extras for members of the public to use and fought it out. The kid on the left in the first photo won the blood fest, (then promptly got grounded for a week when he went home for looking at the frother site *joke*)

rules used were Future warriors.

WIP bits you might have seen before

Damn. Wish I'd gone this year. Last year's Fantasy Warriors game was fantastic. This looks great.
The questions we should be asking are these:
Does it have dungeons?
Does it have dragons?
Does it have transients who kill things for money?  Do you roll a d20?

Keeper

Simply superb :clap2:

The terrains looks just as awesome as any I've seen at a wargames show :D

It was definately one of the best looking displays at Salute.

If me and Bungle can twist a few more arms, next year's will be even better  :icon_suspicious:

I think we can twist their arms Geronimo.. ps did you work on Aliens?

Custom_Hobby

I have a huge Aliens Diroama in the works. I have a ton of the old Leading Edge figures and am making a terrain piece to display them.
