Maybe if there is still time after I finish the Black Scorpion mini

Since our baby has been rather better of late, I've been making a couple of hours each night for painting, after the kids are in bed.

Also, my wife has started taking our toddler to the later church service on a Sunday, so that she can go to Sunday School.  But the baby still needs a morning sleep, so I have been staying at home and painting whilst she sleeps - that is another 2 or 2 1/2 hours.  And yes, you can pray whilst you paint :icon_wink:  Only if you want to, of course

Hopefully all this practice should improve my painting   It is definately making me more relaxed!

Not me mate, I have a block on painting minis for some reason, swear someone has cursed me.  I cant even get a figure done half as good as I used to and nothing goes right for me.  I have a mentor on the Bugmans forum teaching me how to paint at the moment to try and clear it lol

Even if the block wasnt there, the quality of my figs were never tournament worthy so not worth me entering it anyway.  One day.....

lol Keeper, a baby usually forces people into less painting, you've done well mate  :icon_w00t:

Nah its been months since my block appeared and only a few weeks since giving up.  Saying that, it does coincide with when I stopped growing it back in November, you've got me thinking now mate !!!

Does it help? I might try that...

It helps me feel more balanced, in my head.  But I don't think it makes me paint any better

I just had to find a time and a way in which I could still paint.  My sister buying my a GW paint station for Christmas has been of great assistance! It is stored on the shelves in the living room, full of minis and paint, well out of the reach of little fingers!!

I get a block every two or three months or so - usually because something has happened that has stopped me painting for a while.  What works for me is picking up a mini (or perhaps two or three, sometimes) that I don't find daunting; that won't really matter if I mess it up; and just starting to paint.  Just the act of doing some painting - blocking in base skin colour, or clothing colour, or whatever - and leaving the difficult bits until the painting Mojo comes back - I find this gets rid of any painting block I have and pretty quickly the Mojo comes flooding back ...  O0 * someone cue some 70's disco ...*

Actually, I have found that some of the work I like the best has been minis that I've started whilst I've been blocked   Something else I do is just spend some time looking at my minis.  Sounds weird, but I look at the stuff that is half painted or not started and think about how it is going to look when I'm done and what colours will look good.  I quite enjoy it actually; I even think about this stuff at night to calm me down so I can sleep   But the main benefit I find is that when I actually come to paint them, I already have a solid idea in my head what I want them to look like and how I'm going to paint them.

Hope that make sense and that it helps

Yeah I see what you mean mate.  With the house being up for sale all my paints are in a box which doesnt help as takes 10 mins to find each colour.  Since I gave up the herb I have had nightmares practically every night, had 4 last night, all the same.  They usually feature me getting stabbed and was a Stanley blade in the chest last night....its hard to concentrate or do anything when I havent had much sleep.  Hopefully it wont go on for too long.

Once I've painted this fig how the bloke is teaching me I will try your method Keeper.  I'll get 10-20 figs out and just paint which ones I fancy to a basic standard and go from there.  Fingers crossed all will be well  :icon_wink:

Im finding im too much of a perfectionist, so by the time im 3/4 through i often move on to other projects. Thats why painting comps are great to give you a deadline to finish.

I need to relax and bash out some nice table top quality to make me just enjoy slapping paint.

I have 4 items in progress for the "Actually at ReaperCon" painting contest. Now I just need to perfect my time machine so I can have the additional 6 months I'll need to finish them properly.
