Maybe this isn't what you were thinking of.....

a WIP..... Number plates, varnish & dust still to add (so I can get the windscreen wiper marks on)

any other tips?

I tried out the rust chips method from the tutorial......

lol thats great mate.  actually reminds me of vans I saw in my childhood.  Grill at front is a bit new looking but guess that will be sorted with the dust.  Are you gonna do the usual "Clean Me" in dust on one side?   :icon_w00t:

If I can it will have a "Wot No" bloke and "I wish my wife was this dirty"  on the back.

I am still toying with the idea of a name plate/ sign writing on the side.. but I have 2 more to do as well so plenty of time.

1 will be a gaming vehicle

1 will be scenery for the pikey campsite

1 might  just have the manufacturers name down the side as a decal.....  and be extra tatty.

For the next one.
Maybe a bit more orange in the rust and a black wing where it's been changed but not painted.
Make the tyres look more bald by smoothing them with procreate\greenstuff and a broken headlight.

Good work you did there mate.  :clap2:

Really? I thought I had gone too orange as it was.

A "iron oxide" wing is planned.

can't decide on the other colours.. white is such a pain to do well, but i have really got to do a white van man.

Edit: Medved you read my mind I was just posting it over there...

Nice work with the rust. The windshield looks great.

Love it!!
The rust is perfect, the whole van reminds me of my old father in law, he would only buy cheap rusted tranny vans, and they would last he a couple of months, as he wrecked 'em shifting stuff and scrud* about.
The only thing I would add is a wing in a different colour, so it looks lke it's been taken from another van.
Oh and tie a small teddy bear to te front grill, proper pikey then....

 :yeahthat:

Excellent stuff, I tend to glue very fine sand onto rusty areas personally to give a bit of texture.

I was undercoating in red oxide.

then wetting some areas and sprinkling salt on.

I then used to spray the undercoat (white or black) and paint as normal.

when dry vigourously bush off the salt with a stiff bristle paint brush.

some areas of undercoat are revealed, and there are some spots of bad paint that look like spot rusting.

But I thought I would try it a different way this time.
