Meet Brognir












Brognir has a problem (well actualy he has two problems, the other problem being that the fine folks at Rackham actualy think dwarfs should look this ****ed up).

His problem is that his weapon is huge.





And to help you understand how rediculously huge that is (in case the hand didn't give it away) I've let Armoured Boris lie down beside it to give you something for reference.






Yes, that's right, it's absolutely rediculous. Now I'm going to be generous and asusme that that's a two handed weapon. Now I'm going to be realistic and realise that that's a three (or even four) handed weapon. Let's ignore the stupid giant tusk/earring things Brognir's got that are going to get in the way. Let's even ignore the fact that his power fist is "optional" and pretend he's automaticaly got it ('cause it's on the sculpt).

Even with the power fist that thing's just rediculous (and the haft's just too thin for the huge triangular blobs on the end).

So something needs to be done.

Here I've run into a few problems.

1: The best thing to do would be to replace the weapon entirely. That won't be easy as the best way of doing it would be to cut it away from the ahnd then chop a large weapon in half and put a pin through the hand then attach both ends (chopping off the bit of the grip his hand would cover). That wouldn't be a very stable joint and would be prone to the top half breaking off a lot (the bottom's resting on the base).

So 2: The next most obvious method would be to chop the top off the weapon and stick a new one on. Unfortunately the evil scum at Rackham have forseen this obvious course of action and made the shaft so unbelievably thin (I don't know what drugs they were smoking at the time) that you couldn't stick a new top on if you took the old one off :(.

So then the only remaining option seems to be 3: Chop the points off the triangles then try to convert them into believable blades without making them look crud*.

Obviously the best option of all would be to have a large weapon with a hand attached and then attach that at the wrist. Now those wicked sods have attached this arm at the elbow which means it'd be abugger to make a wrist joint (and finding a suitable weapon hand with an arm that goes all the way up to the elbow would be pretty difficult). On top of that finding another hand that matches the existing one (which fits in well with the rest of his butt ugly sculpt) wouldn't be easy.

Can you help Brognir? Brognir needs your help. Of course he understands that whatever help you can offer him won't be much good before tomorrow night's game bu he needs helping all the same.

The shocking thing is that he's actualy the second best looking character model in their dwarf range if you ignore the end of the weapon (and considering he's also the chea[est/least effective character (unless he's got the powerfist) then that's really saying something).

Chop off axe including shaft, cut shaft off Boris axe, drill hole through hand and Boris axe head, use gass welding wire (it a nice size) and put it through the hand and attach the Boris axe head, using procreate\green stuff thicken the shaft to the size you want.

You can use any weapon head and give him a spear, grave, large mace or what ever you want.

Well according to "the rules" his equipment is listed as "weapon, armour" reall detailed, so yeah.... Based on the way they've actualy statted him up he's wielding a two handed weapon. The problem was that all their preview pictures of him were taken from the same angle so the weapon was practicaly side on (and didn't look crud*). When I got it out the box I was a bit gobsmacked.

What wire? I've got paperclips.......

I've got a number of other two handed axes and hammers I'd be happy to use (they look right for the style) but don't see it working without something very sturdy all the way up the shaft.

Thanks for answering. I've been checking every few minutes (and even added everything before the comma to the thread title to encourage people) to see if there's any replies. It looks so crud* at the moment I'd even be willing to pay someone to improve it.

I did the same thing with this guy.

It's a brass welding rod as far as i can remember but any large wire\rod would do but the one i used is very strong and you don't have to worry about it bending.

You know, I actualy gave up highlighting and just drybrushed the last two thirds of his hair and beard (it shows). I might have touch touch up those final highlights a bit.

I think it's my best option too but I also know that I don't have the equipment (and probably lack the skill) to do it :(.

On the last picture you can actualy see that I painted his eyes (and all his teeth) first :).

These photo's are showing me two streaks of metallic colour on the skin I'll need to touch up (which is a joke 'cause I painted his skin from the waist down after doing all the metals so it'll have to have come from that power generator thing on the back of his beklt as I added a few highlights to it after finishing his skin, and those paints are rare).

It's actualy simple skin. Bestai brown, bestial & reaper tanned shadow, reaper tanend shadow, reaper tanend flesh then reaper tanned highlight. Their skin paints really are that good  :).

Clipper's, file and drill is all you need, i used plyer's to cut the rod as it's a hard bugger.

Brognir has now recieved help. I cut off the offenssive weapon and drilled a hole through his hand. Unfortunately I needed a larger drillbit so I gave the hand to a friend (deciding that it would be easier to just drill a large hole and insert the axe haft of the replacement weapon straight through the hand). He spent a long time getting round to it but it's done now and hopefuly I'll be able to able to put the whole thing together around this time next week and finaly finish him off :) (that happy face is because It'll be finished and I'll never have to paint this miniature again, not because I might actualy like the hideous pacman wannabe in a moment of deluded poor taste or something :p).
