Just got back from the dentist.. yes I know its 9pm but he does a door to door chauffer service  :icon_wink:

He's a star.

one gold crown.. top of the range deluxe jobbie. First time I can bite properly in years.

How much would one of those be in the US or OZ?

in the UK between 1 and 5 NHS cheapy gold crowns cost £189.... one privately cost whatever the dentist wishes to charge (£250 to £500 for a delux jobbie)

I have a wonderful dentist, too.

I recently got two new porcelain fused to gold crowns (one was a surprise  :icon_whaaaaa:) and they generally cost about $1,000 each.  My insurance covers 60% of restorative work, up to $1,000 max per yr, so with all the drilling and whatnot, it was about $1,200 out of pocket.  But, those two look real.  Seriously.  Same color and translucency as my other toofs.

I grind mine so wanted the strongest i could get.

And yes my dentist is a wargaming mate... so my crown cost me the lab bills £54. (a bit differnt from the £390 he would normally charge)

Have you remembered to ask him for tools?
I got quite a few of my sculpting tools for free from my dentist. Tools he had to discard anyway.

I would have made the same suggestion, but my dentist isn't allowed to give away tools.  Hygiene issues.  Why sterilization is good enough to stick the used&washed tool in my mouth, but not good enough to allow me to use it to sculpt, is beyond me.

Hmmmm. Is your dentist newly educated? Mine was an old fox that had worked for fortyfive years as a dentist and now was an expert on root canals only. With that experience people often tend to start making a difference between the rules that truly matter and the rules that are a bit exaggerated.

The office is fairly new, and they run it really tight.  Besides, I'm in the US, where folks are lawsuit-happy, so I'm sure they'd rather avoid any unpleasant business.

I have a nice collection of drill bits... the only disposable bits he parts with..

One draw is filled with miniatures and paints for times when patients don't turn up.. just so he doesn't get bored  :icon_cool:

I have no idea how much my root canal and cap are costing (thank god for insurance). My dentist wouldn't even give me the x-ray he had taken (agent molar wanted to see it). The tools are out of the question. Like cheddar mentioned here in the US they are worried about being sued.
