Basing materials

This weekend I have mostly.... been laying a new floor in the kitchen, and trying to regrout the bathroom floor.

I got some grey flexible grout and tiling adhesive from Unibond.. it has turned out much darker than we hoped, so needs removing and redoing.

but on the plus side it has given me loads of already coloured basing material for cooled lava/rock/ash wastes or the moon surface.

Just a shame I didn't plan on any terrain that colour.

I normally use ready mixed filler in a tub or tube for basing, and mould it into shape with a oil paint palette knife (like a mini builders trowel)

on that I glue any grit or flock.

What do the rest of you do for gaming miniatures?

cork board is a biggie.  It is good for all sorts of surfaces, or to add thickness to a base.

Most of my bases get sand glued to all or part of the surface.

I use coffee stirring sticks for wooden floors or decks.

I have plant dirt that looks like little leaves that I use for marshy terrain.

Pink foam also works great for larger bases, for hills or stone formations.

I use static grass, especially on fantasy football figures.

And, plastic cobblestone card from model railroad supply, for cobblestone bases.

Most of what I use has been covered by both of you. I also just sculpt things from GS all the time. I do that more often than not.

Coffee stirring sticks! What a great idea - just the thing for my Hanako (which will be right after the Wood Elves, Amanthas, Anubi Embalmer, Stalks etc etc)

I'm a packrat, anything i come across that might be handy i keep.  :icon_razz:

Any sculpting putty left over is done into shapes that might come in handy some time.
