Finally broke a 2-month drought of figure painting and got chance to try out the citadel washes in the process.

Couple of Eureka zombies, packed with fiddly detail, which was why I decided they'd suit multiple washes rather than anything more fiddly...

Eyes look a little too white in these pics, mainly due to excessive brightening in PSP trying to get some decent colour into the pics. Oh, and macro shows up all the problems as per usual  :icon_eek:

Lovely gribbly stuff, and the basing isn't bad either!  I really like the GW washes, and they've worked well here!

Bungle

OK which washes did you use, I haven't tried any yet.

I like the dark colours, real old dead bodies... are brown.

Killshot

Got to agree, the washing technique gave a good result.  Well done.   :occasion14:

TBH I use washes and glazes on everything I paint, Used the GW washes extensively on the Rhino fella and the spyglass chick recently,  the black, red and green are very good as is the flesh wash - much less 'heavy' than the old inks and have a matt finish.

Nice & gribbly work. Did you print out the sign on the first one too?

Gribbly gribbly gribble!!  :clap2:
Got myself the GW washes today. Might have to play with them soon. After I finish George. And the dragon bust. And make a concerted start on my DoD. And finish my Valaska Syn diorama. And the My Little Anubis bust I'm sculpting for my friend. And scratch the rhinoman/Ceros itch in my sculpting hindbrain that Vermis, you and Snuurg prompted. And retry casting my dragon skull for FoDDers and CHFers to play with. I wonder if I'm going to have time to eat over the next few months...

IIRC I used every single colour from the washes set. Lots of layering. Thinned some of them out even more than standard from-the-pot.

Flesh started out GW dwarf flesh. Washes of sepia, mud, ogryn flesh and green in varying patches and areas 'till I got the effect I wanted. Blood and guts were successive washes over white primer - red, sepia, purple, blue and green. Lots of sepia, mud, and black for bones and clothes. Blue and green over relevant trousers.

Highlights painted in and/or drybrushed then more washes. Varnished and then selective splatters/washes of red and purple inks.

"Protect & survive" leaflet was scanned in from one of the real things we have kicking around the workshop :) I'd also collated a large selection of suitably apocalyptic poster and newspaper artworks to use on the FU:UK Tower Bridge project - just printed out onto good quality inkjet paper then fixed down with thinned PVA and finished off with more sepia and black washes.

I can see I'm going to be getting through a lot of these damned new paints  :icon_suspicious:

We still doing tower bridge then?

I had better get those warehouses finished that I stopped doing 2 months ago.

To be honest, no, I don't think we are. I'm pretty much out of spare time between now and Salute - we've lost 3 months with  disagreement from the committee :) But I'd put aside lots of bits and pieces like this specifically for it and I'm damned if I'm not going to use'em somewhere !

Oh well....

I have a fire engine.. 2 bits of construction equipment (digger and concrete breaking thingy), 2 boats. Ford Granada.. VW Beetle, VW Bus, Renault 5, Moggie minor, Jag (I did a 1991 type thought D'OH)... all bought or made to help block up the bridge.

I am almost out of time too.

Nice work there.  I like the skelly the best.  I am currently going through a slump myself.  How did you get out of it?
Long term exposure to the Orb of Confusion will give you...er.. confusion!

Err....by suffering from a slipped disc and being forced to stay at home. After a couple of days of laying on the sofa watching dvds I felt capable of sitting upright, and was just about comfortable enough to paint for a few hours.

Back to work today, which probably means no more spare time for painting again  :icon_ermm:
