I wish I had the real estate for something like that, it's great!
What is it, a Dwarvish port being assaulted? Very original piece.

It's the guy who runs our local game shop who did this when he was working for GW. His name is Nicolas Patey.

Recently, he's been making a sci-fi game board for the shop, you can see pictures there:

Has he got WIP pictures anywhere of the Dwarf hold?  I'd like to know how he did the Dwarven faces in the rock and general Dwarfy architecture.  Looks like his Sci-Fi one will be very impressive too !!!!

Yeah looks like it could be Barak Varr, GW's Dwarf port.  I'd love to have the space too but you'd need a whole room dedicated to it.

Barak Varr is my favorite dwarf hold, did you see the spotlight of it in WD about a year ago? (background material, not any pics)
I'll be in my bunk.

Perv

My WD collection only went to 249 so didnt see it unfortunately.  I think its such a popular hold as its so cosmopolitan and you have the sea element too adding yet more variety.  All others are just rocky really with the exception of Zhufbar but having waterfalls working the machineries of a hold would be a lot harder to model !!!

I'll ask him. As for the sci-fi board, it's been finished about one month ago. It looks really great, perfect for Necromunda or other future/modern skirmish games.

Thanks a lot mate, I'm really stuck on what and how to make Dwarven architecture.  Geronimo hasnt produced any Dwarven bits yet but I live in hope  :icon_w00t:

Cant wait to see pics of the Sci-fi board finished and I bet its as good as the other one.

Chrysalis

I'm not sure he understood what kind of info I was asking him, but are some:

- The dwarven faces were made by David de Abreu with oven-hardening modelling paste. From what I understood, it was added especially for the GD.

- The architecture was inspired by the Lord of the Ring, and by the WiP of Warhammer Online.

I'll ask him more when I see him by the end of the week...

Perv

Ahh I thought it would be something like modelling paste\clay.  Not something I can replicate unfortunately so looks like I will have to wait til some Hirst Arts moulds contain some or someone else brings out Dwarven bits and pieces.....

Thanks a lot for asking him mate, much appreciated  :icon_wink:

Chrysalis

You're welcome.

You could perfectly duplicate those dwarven faces. You can use some siligum to make a silicon mould easily and cast a lot with plaster.

Perv

I have 5 thumbs on each hand....no chance of any skillful sculpting, I am limited to making rocks  :icon_scratch:

Medved

there are a few of us on this site that could make them for you  :icon_wink:

Perv

Thanks for the offer but I am now going to cheat.  Theres plenty of architrave and ornamental dado rail type things that I can use and they look suitably Dwarven.

The one above is £6.28 per 2 metres of it and its 65 mm wide which is pretty much perfect.  I've seen cheaper architrave at about £1.50 per metre so with a combination of them I should be able to get a Dwarven look for next to nothing  :icon_wink:  There are other ornamental pieces I have seen like this :-

http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav/nav.jsp?action=detail&fh_secondid=9274946&fh_view_size=6&fh_start_index=12&fh_eds=%3f&fh_location=%2f%2fcatalog01%2fen_GB%2fcategories%3c%7b10082%7d%2fcategories%3c%7b8960090%7d%2fcategories%3c%7b9221011%7d%2fspecificationsProductType%3dOrnaments&fh_refview=lister&ts=1212584453685&isSearch=false

its a bit pricey at £16 but am sure there will be other cheaper stuff in b&q that I can use.....
