Been on a bit of a roll with the whole painting thing for the last couple of weeks - as you might have noticed by the number of gallery items I've posted recently.  So, why stop now?  Here is one more!

A Cephalod Soldier which I bought from Black Hat Miniatures a little while ago and I've been feeling guilty about not having finished so I made a bit of an effort.  He is deliberately painted in a comic book style - so the lack of blending in places is quite intentional, and I am really pleased with the way he has come out!

You comments and feedback are welcome and appreciated, as always! :D

This brain looks like it freshly comes out of a head! Great job! Your alien also has a nasty look with his tiny cruel eyes :clap2:

Too bad you can't use it with your greys, or maybe as some kind of big brain boss?

You're a martian lover, aren't you Dave?  :icon_wink:

Well, not in the carnal sense, no. :icon_wink: Je préfère les belles Venusianes :D

I was thinking it might be someone to fight against the greys.  Of course, he might also do as a grey controller, as you suggest - they greys are all clones, after all! :D  Maybe one of the Cephalod civilians, the ones without weapons) might server better in that role!

HA! These are great!  I like how the eyes came out.
Long term exposure to the Orb of Confusion will give you...er.. confusion!

I invite you to my dot on the web: http://www.darkgrinminiatures.com

Great job  :clap2:  the base looks a little underdone though and I think a little drybrush of grey or another colour over it would really bring the model to life and add more depth.  Cant fault the alien though, nice and subtly done :)

Keeper

Thanks for the advice Perv - drybrushing flock is not something I've ever really done.  What colour would I drybrush it?
:hal:

Perv

I instantly thought of light grey as it would compliment the green and red but may not tie in with an alien landscape theme.  How about foundation yellow over black?  like a bumblebee kinda look

A jet black base with a bright colour drybrsuhed on it would set it off perfectly I think but its deciding which one would suit it best and my colour choices have been appalling over the last 6 months so you may want someone elses advice lol

Keeper

Ah! I see where our thinking differs :D

You're thinking alien on an alien landscape - not a bad idea at all.  I was thinking Alien moving over parkland and/or savannah as he invades right here on earth :D

Ah I get ya, may be hard to get the green base right with the green thats already on the model though.   You'd be better off with a golden browny dried grass look I think so it adds contrast to the colours already there.  Sorta like a cornfield colour

Keeper

I could try lightly drybrishing the grass with a straw colour.

Cornflower blue would contrast too much with the downwash from the jets, I think.

straw would work I think and you already have the appropriate shading on the base so it should be a quick job.  Try to go for a more browney straw than a bone\pale one as you can always do a light drybrush with bone after.  I'm imagining what a stick of corn looks like when its growing (Not corn on the cob) and that colour would go with all the ones you have already.  Never seen cornflower blue so not sure of shade but with the jets definately wouldnt work as you say
