Old vs New

So, I've dug this out following Keeper40K's thread on the Blood angels.



this was probably the 4th or 5th mini I ever painted (drybrushed!).

I'm going to strip it and re-paint ASAP to see if I've improved..

Anyone else fancy having a go, post one of your earliest paintjobs and post a redux.

That is bloody good for the first model you've ever painted!

My origional tiranids where spray black, paint all scales and bits that stick out chainmail, paint all biomorphs bestial brown. Ready for the table. That was when I was about 10, I like to thing I've improved.

Hell of a lot better than my old Rainbow Warriors, gi6ers!!!

EDIT: OK, here we go ...

The one on the left is the first miniature I ever remember painting ... although I'm not sure it is actually the first I ever painting.  The one on the left I painted about four or five years later.  If I can find another copy of this mini - I'll try and do a new version.

The one on the right is my first finished Hasslefree figure and the one on the left was done two years later, it was finished about 8 months ago.


It was only 3 years ago that I started getting any advice or help of any kind with painting, converting and such.
I didn't know about shading, highlighting or any of that stuff, I just slapped on airfix paint with a massive bushy extra cheep brush.
There was about a 20 year gap from when I first started to slap on paint and when I restarted slapping it on, the biggest difference is I have more patenice now that I had then.

all mine are stripped.  I used Humbrol enamels at first Bungle and Dettol stripped them off beautifully to erase all signs of the paint massacre  :icon_wink:

Is Dettol safe for plastic minis?  I've used it on metal minis before but I've not tried plastics yet.

Yeah it's good stuff, try not to leave them in more than a week tho, it discolours the plastic, but nothing else.
24hrs is plenty, and the best thing is if you fill a resealable tub with it, you can just re use as many times as you like.
Smells nice too.
