Who's your Daddy?

I mean, Who's your Host?  My stuff is on Godaddy, but they do not offer the performance that I need for my php-heavy scripting.

I'm currently shopping around, and I'm getting ready to try some others.  I checked out Globat, but they only give three mysql databases with their standard hosting package.  I don't run a business, so I'm trying not to spend more than $10 a month, but even cheddarmongers uses more than three databases.  I could merge them, but I've been afraid to do that, seeing that I"m already having performance problems.

Codewise, cheddarmongers uses Drupal as a CMS, plus webcal for a calendar and gallery (http://gallery.menalto.com) -- I have it all integrated, going for a seamless user experience.

I currently use www.Globat.com for hosting and www.networksolutions.com for some of their products.

Dave how many mysql databases do you need? I am currently thinking of upgrading my plan so I might be able to help.

I'm actually gonna try merging my databases and doing performance testing.  I have a test server at home, and I'll put them online on a test domain when I'm happy with the functionality.  Right now, I'm using about seven databases among my two domains, but I may be able to trim it to 2 or 3.

Bah...  globat uses mysql 4 dot something, and I have no idea what version of php they're using because they don't say in their FAQ.
I might give it a try anyway...

Mike -- feel like putting up a phpinfo page where I can see what they're running?  Its easy -- just create a new blank web page, name it phpinfo.php and put the following code in it:

<?php
phpinfo()
?>

then post a link to that page.  It will return something like this:

I will send it to outlaw. He does all the work on the website. Also in the meantime (if you want the answer right now) you can contact their tech support and do a live chat with them or call them.

I got the info I was looking for from globat:

http://www.globat.com/miscellaneous/softver.htm

So, I'm a little worried that they're still on php 4 and that they don't have mysqli support, but its worth a try.

I was able to merge all of my databases together, so Cheddarmongers is running on only one database right now.

I'll set up my dev environment at home to use their versions of php and mysql and see if I can move the site.  My performance has been ghastly.

Crud.  I signed up for an account on globat, and the performance seems a touch worse than godaddy.  In addition, their servers are at way lower revs; apache 1.2, mysql 4.0, php 4.3.  My test gallery site runs even slower, and I can't even get my CMS to install.  It took me four hours to upload 30 megs worth of pictures.  Ugh.

I'll see if their tech support can sort it out, but theres a few other features missing, like advanced dns control, and some command interpreter settings aren't behaving how I'd expect.

Okay, I figured it out.  Then made a mess.  Its hard to upload stuff across my work network!  So look for updates tomorrow.

I edited my php.ini and .htaccess files, and figured out where most of my problems were.

When I get my dev stuff uploaded, I'll be looking for a bunch of wannabe-cheddarmongers to stress-test the site!
