Uruk Captain's Display

This was a small piece we did for Nick. He wanted to a display base for the Captain of the Uruk Hai that were about to attack Helms Deep as in the movie.

It was surprisingly easy. The rock was a carved chunk of green foam - not the pink or blue varieties, green. It's a lot denser than the other types, but other than that I don't know too much about it - Anyway, originally I was just intending to push a spare base into the surface enough to mark the area that needed carving out, but I found that pushing down hard and rotating the base was enough to compress the foam to the right depth... Doing that a couple of times and then sealing the impression with some PVA glue ... that was it. Nice and simple - for a change :-)

Is it the same as Florist's dry foam, i'm getting some to see if it's any use.

Floral foam.

But i imagine the price was worth getting hold of some flower arranging foam!

Orded some off ebay and if it's good will get more in block's and such.

Have no idea of prices and forgot to search ebay for more, found it while looking for fine sand.

Long story. And to cut out loads of bits.

. my mother used to do cakes for weddings birthdays etc, as well as flowers as a "hobby".
I always got roped in to help with the finishing touches (roses, butterflys, orchids and anything unusual that needed making out of sugar paste) and general dogsbody with the flowers. I hate the feel of the "oasis" foam ( I knew I would remember what it was called eventually)
