Don't know if you're all familiar with the VIP:s (Visions in putty) at the Yahoo group 1list sculpting. Basically it's a way for everyone to have fun - no contest as there are no winners.
A subject for sculpting is set and everybody who wants sculpt something following that theme.
Lately entrants have become fewer and fewer and I thought that probably was because everyone is taking their work to seriously. So I proposed a quick VIP instead.

Start: NOW
Deadline: Monday
Timerestriction: six hours (NOT including curing time, pauses and such)
Subject: Not restricted but someone said "Revolution" and I said if people WANT a subject they can allways follow that (I will)
Materials: Since it's meant as a kind of quicksketch it's assumed that the figures won't be cast, which means that ANY material is OK

So if anyone wants to join you just start sculpting and then on monday post your sculptures in a folder set up for the purpose at 1list sculpting. Or you might just want to look at the entries we get.
The folder is under "Photos" section with the headline QuickVIP.

Again it's no contest so no prices no winners. It's a way for us sculptors to talk about what it is we do (in drawing quicksketching is excellent for that and I thought quicksculpting might also be)

With a timerestriction of three hours this could become an interesting feature at convents and such to  :icon_wink:

So six hours working time and any figure will do....

Will see what I can come up with.  :icon_wink:

3 hours? I've got it!

You could use the other three hours to make Jigglypuff

They're more complex than you think the simplified comic booky figures such as pokemon Sonic or what have you. Above all it's the need for an extremely smooth look to get it right that is timeconsuming. Smoothing large surfaces is a lot more timeconsuming than finedetailing in my experience.
I'd be at it for at least twelve hours making something like Jigglypuff I think (at least in the normal Pokemon size)
In fact I often sit and admire the skilled sculpting behind some of my sons pokemon figures.

It's a common misconception in drawing as well as in sculpting that a lot of detail means skill. It doesn't.
Picasso once made a sketch in which he started with a quick sketch of a bull then removed more and more until he had only ONE line (The shape of the back) that was still clearly distinguishable as a bull. THAT is skill.
(Yes I AM comparing the skill of Pokemon designers to the skill of Picasso  :icon_wink:. Unorthodox as it may seem. I have great respect for their skill in doing exactly that which they have set out to do to top quality even if I don't quite understand why they wanted to do it to start with...)

Again don't confuse choices (sometimes weird choices I admit) with lack of talent.  Picasso could do extremely exact photorealistic painting if he wanted to. He choose other roads though. He had a most exceptional talent yes. But could he sculpt pokemon?

I always thought that Picasso must have been involved at least in the concept stages of the whole Pokemon shebang!  You mean he wasn't? ;)
