Ok so this is the thread for when you have an idea or a concept for something but have no idea how to go about tackling it.

are you planning a conversion, or need to know how to paint something a certain way.  We'll all do our best to help you out and share our experience to get you there.

tonight (uk time) i'll get some pictures of a WIP demonette up  (as i will be needing a fair bit of help with it i imagine)

Great idea. I made the topic a sticky so that we can just keep the thread going.

cheers Mike that was just what i was hoping for!

ok to start us off i want to start a demonette with a difference

she will be based on the gazelle from dark-age minis

so far i have hacked her nose off and started a basic armature to make a clawed hand.  how the heck am i going to do that???

anybody have any pointers or pics to help out?

gi6ers

Claw hand - Tyranid hand? GW Zombie hand? I've probably got the latter but they are quite large....

Medved

well i'm going to sculpt it on.  quite a few mods are planned for this one!

ok so last night saw the attack of the mother in law......... :scared:

vacuum cleaner versus non-pinned mini and hard floor + serious rethink on how i am going to approach this.

on a brighter note, what i have managed to do tonight is encouraging and i may well enter her into an online comp (if painted)

so no pics for a while.

That explane's the quick remove of the pictures then.  :stickpoke:
I now know which one not to vote for...  :icon_mrgreen:

well i've completely changed the concept (i'm not saying how)  but i could do with some ideas how to make a clawed hand

Dr.Evil

Chop and pin would mean searching for one the right size and near to the shape you want and probably having to bay a figure to get it.

All i can think of is thin wire and Procreate, goggle for claw hands to see what different styles there is, you might get some good ideas for there.

I'd love to see open hands for Heresy's NL2.  I really don't think he needs weapons, I'd rather see him talons...
Nevermind me, I have a cruddy banner, so please click HERE for Cheddarmongers!

We do have particularly good sculptors as members of the forum. If you HASSLE to look at the member list you might SPY their names :icon_wink: , send them a note and ask for a tutorial on it. Yes, I know that was terrible :icon_redface:

Brown hair. There's lots of different shades of brown so I'd like to see people's favourite methods. I'd like to do more browns and feel like bringing them up to the standards I've managed to achieve in other colours.

While we're on hair, have you noticed how some hair is sculpted in such a way that you simply can't highlight up from dark but have to paint it bright then ink it down and some hair is sculpted to allow you to do it both ways?

Okay, here's a convertion idea I've had knocking about in my head for a few days now but it would involve me learning some seriously good sculpting skills or bribing someone who already can sculpt what I need so....

Behold these heasvily armoured dwarfs for Warmachine. Next cast your eyes upon the recently released Haela from HF.

Here's a backshot of one of the gunners (the rucksack is a separate piece):

My idea is this: take Haela and chop off the axe hand at the wrist. replace it with one of the gundwarf's gun hands (the lose arms on the running ones, not the aiming arms on the standing ones). Next (and this is the tough part) get someone to sculpt an identical armoured gauntlet on her left hand. Then chop up the back of that hood a bit and stick the rucksack on her back. Then resculpt the hood a bit  to make it look pushed back (I can probably do that bit). Then I'd prop the shield up under her left elbow as if she's leaning on it before picking it up again to walk forwards. Then I'd maybe use a bit of wire but definately use some putty to sculpt in the missing part of the shield's handle (where the left hand goes).

And then there's an alternate officer/unit member. I don't suppose anyone'd care to volunteer to do the gauntlet to hand sculpt. Any suggestions or recommendations as to how to go about it would be good as well.

The way you describe sounds like the way I would takle a conversion like this.  Hopefully, someone else has a better idea! :)

Slightly OT: Are these guys just Dwarvish Junker Convict Legionaires ?  The resemblance is overwhelming!
