...toys??

My first new topic! *sniff* hope its better than my usual standard of 'first topics'...

I'd just like to know, and possibly inspire people with this - does anybody convert miniatures using ordinary, plastic toys? Like those little ones you always used to get in big variety packs, I find they're great for slicing apart and reattaching to your lovely tomb scorpion or used to create new monstrosities...

We have hundreds of toys left over from way back when my lil  bro played with them, so we're now butchering them up for our twisted creations -_- I'm just now working on:

- A serpenty-thing made with the tail of the GW tomb scorpion having plastic scorpion arms and a LEGO spear for a tail o.o

- an beast based on the Dungeon Siege Impaler, the toy scorpion's body with a goblin shark head, the scorp's tail, and the tomb scorpion legs, currently absolutely covered in green stuff

- a ...soemthing. Its an eel body with a mass of legs and tentacles at the nasty end surroudning the head of an unkown mini I got a while ago (possibly hasslefree or reaper) a beaked lizard-thing.


The main problem with using these is that they're never really too solid, but for the advantages I think that's worth overlooking.

My mates dad has a 5000pt Ork army for 40K and instea of buying big forgeworld pieces of Gargants (Or whatever they are called) he just used Star Wars toys!

A little greenstuffing around the joins then built a platform for its back.

The same mate built a titan out of a big transformer toy and kit bashing for his Ultramarine army. You can barely notice that its a kit bash £150 cheaper then the FW one!

I've seen somebody make a Tau titan-thing from a Gundam model...

Yeah, toys work well for money-saving, I'm thinking lizardmen carnosaurs and stegadons, maybr even dragons and mumakil? or just for cool conversion/ representation.

its even cheaper if you already have tons of them lying around too... although the only big thing we have I think is an anteater... *imagines anteater-squiggoth*

Yep we do it too. everything you see on this page (and some others that are not posted yet) were made from misc items from toys, kits, etc

my tutorial would consist of, 'chop thiings up, reassemble in the wrong way'...

Actually I was thinking the same thing. Only because each item is different in a case like this. The best thing I can say would be to think of what you want to do first and then look for items that will not take too much work to convert. As an example with the Arial Hunter/Killer we made:



we used a kit for an Apache Gunship.

I saw tht in another thread, very cool. Might try that srta thing myself actually. Reassmebling kits 'wrong', like I always did with lego...

I've tried using that too, t get a rough outline or to usurp the weapons...
