The thought struck me that noone has contributed poems. That's art to aint it?
OK, the background story:
When my daughter (now twelve) was underway her mother ended up in the hospital with terrible pains in her belly three months before my daughter was about to be born. It turned out to be appendicitis but I was at home worried sick that it would be a miscarriage. So I wrote a song to our unborn child whom I thought would be a boy.
Turned out to be a girl and she turned out to be healthy and well but the song was still there  :icon_wink:

I made the melody myself but it was inspired by medieval tunes:

Fairy Lullaby:

Now I'll sing you a little lullaby
of sorrow and joy The sweetest little lullaby for my little boy
Of a sleeping child
and of fairies gone wild
and of fairies gone wild

Come join us says the fairie queen
and share our delight
come sparkle with the fairies and
shine with us bright
in the dancing joy
come dance little boy
come dance little boy

come sing with us and dance with us
and sparkle so wild
and tiptoe through the meadows
our sweetest wee child
in the whirling dance
oh come be entranced
come be entranced

(and then I nicked a tune as bridge - a traditional instrumental irish tune called "king of the fairies" that goes progressively faster and faster a dance until death)

Now in that little grove where the fairies danced wild
In that little grove where a sick child did die
there stands an apple tree
that the fairies gave thee
that the fairies gave thee.

I have never understood poetry or the meaning of it.  Stories are stories, songs are songs, poems are sorta somewhere inbetween and beyond my comprehension.  I just dont get it.  Not saying they are bad or anything, I just dont understand any of them or why people write them

Sorry I am a bit of a caveman  :icon_w00t:

that's pretty touching bodhi, came outa nowhere and slapped me one
and i gotta agree with you Perv, most poetry seems to be an attempt to get some lovin' but some of it just gets me, deep down

I like your poem, and for me poetry is welcome here, but I'll not be patronising and pretend to understand - I hope that is OK :)

I never been able to understand poetry - but I think that is because I don't have much of an instinct for emotions in other people, unless I am concentrating on trying to understand; and most poetry I have tried to understand has been deeply emotional.  I do have one poem by Roger McGough memoriesed, though, but even I can tell this is not as good as your poem, Bohdi!

Last night at London Airport
I saw a wooden bin labelled
"Unwanted Poetry to be placed, herein"
So I wrote this poem
And put it in.

I've had trouble understanding a lot of poetry to but it's a VERY wide genre really. So I've found a few that I like. Favourite is Majakovskij - part of the Dada movement in russia in the 1920:s (I think) and there are quite a few latinamerican gems.
This one is folkmusic though (in style) and folkmusic lyrics I rarely have trouble understanding.

lol thank God I'm not alone.  I have heard Craig Charles' (Lister from Red Dwarf) poetry is very good but the books cost quite a bit apparently.  Sure my mum has one somewhere and she rates it highly.

With songs and stories you can listen to them and not have to fully understand them to appreciate them but I dont think its the same with Poetry.  Its too meaningful.  One day maybe it'll all become clear to me  :icon_w00t:
