1/76 is 4mm to the foot, so a 6' footer is 24mm tall, but people wern't 6' tall very often historically.

1/72 is 20mm

1/48 is 40mm

so 28m to proper human proportions is somewhere between.

A Hasslefree 28mm figure is about 1/55, but Hasslefrees are finer than lots of peoples figures, Ebob, BAM, Chieftain, Anglian, Artizan, Mongrel, are working to 1/56 for historical models of figures and vehicles.

Sloppy Jaloppy are working to 1/56 for modern stuff, and 1/48 for 1920's pulp stuff to go with Copplestone miniatures.

If you go for the 1/50 scale boats they should look OK

I didnt check out that link yet but what I would really need are good blueprints or a good cross section of some pirate ships. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

We've got a 1:1 working replica of the Discovery in our workshop's "back yard" at the minute, not really a pirate ship (:) ) but I ought to get some reference pics while it's hanging around. Will post them if they're any use for reference,Mike.

Sorry I missed this thread guys, but all you need is one of these:

Might take a couple of weeks to build, but it's multi layered, so has the option of playing inside the ship, not just on the decks.

That is exactly what I want to do with the one I want to make

Is that a ship made of paper Bruenor???

Sacrilege.....like paper and card houses, its just not cricket mate  :icon_w00t:

Nice idea and design but I need something solid to work with and just cant face building something out of what I would consider as a filter for a joint  :icon_wink:  I'd run out of roach paper and would end up using the ship in emergencies......

Custom_Hobby

That is why I am making one to cast in resin and sell :icon_wink: :icon_cool:

Ha!
That's a funny one as the card I use for the WWG builds, has been used for as a roach by my neighbour many times, a quick knock on the window, and I pass a sheet over the fence, much to his apprecitation.

Now it may not be cricket, but it's hella cool to play on, I haven't built this one, as I don't own the set....Yet!
I have built the Castle and Village sets, and they are a lot sturdier than they look, and really nice to set shots up in.
Each to their own tho', I suppose.

Question -- do you find that the masts, rigging, and sails get in the way when gaming?  or do you need them for the ship games (scoring hits on sails, masts, rigging, etc?)

I only played three ship-based games -- a Mordheim Lustria scenario and Pirates! are 25mm games, focused more on the minis in combat, and the ships were mainly transportation only.  You could do some ramming in Pirates.  The other game, I forgot what it was, but it was 1/300 scale and the ships had detailed stat sheets and kept close count of rigging/sails/hull status, orders, etc, but there wasn't really any hand2hand combat.  Well, there was, but it was really rudimentary.  One roll for all the crew, etc.
Nevermind me, I have a cruddy banner, so please click HERE for Cheddarmongers!

The WWG one is more about life on the ship, than the actual sailing, so I guess the masts and sails are just for realism, although you can climb up to the crows nest, so running away from a enemy could entail using the rigging and masts.
