So - how are peple doing on this? Any conceptsketches? Armatures?
Worthless

Personally I just saw "Apocalypto" for the second time and got a bit sidetracked by mayan warriors... icon_redface It's a good anatomy excercise since they're almost nekkid but the noserings and earpiercings/lippiercings are a bugger being so tiny.
Pics coming up soon for the remake of the first elf in greenstuff anyway (with just one bowarm as yet - and the bow not finished at that. But the core body IS done.)

Hopefully get some more done today, but still ironing out the concept and how to tie the pieces together so that they form a cohesive looking force (but with the diversity I mentioned previously).

I figured that anyone in a Death Cult would want to somehow immortalise their sacrifices, so why not eat them.

Probably as much to do with the TV prog on Dahmer I watched the other night as anything else Wink!

A solid reasoning that has historical ties

Would that be Maya and Aztecs again you mean? the alleged cannibalism of The Maya and Aztecs has been subject to much debate. No conclusion seems likely in the foreseeable future.
Among tribes who really WHERE cannibals beyond a shadow of a doubt I don't think they specifically where followers of death cults.
Two types of cannibalism typically prevail:

1. The ancestorcult variety. In this you eat your dead relatives in order to preserve them - body and all - within the clan/family. Distasteful maybe but not very aggresive. Unfortunately it has lead to a disease called "Kuru" which essentially is a disease that strikes as brainfever. It's the same as "Mad cows disease really" and has the same causes (grinding down cows bones in the pellets for the cows is one of the reasons for Mad cows disease) so it seems to be a disease caused by eating something that is TO genetically close to the eater.

2. The  "Sympathetic magic" variety where it is believed that eating, for instance the heart of a strong warrior, would let the eater gain some of the strength of that strong warrior. This type of cannibalism is more common among warlike aggresive tribes such as for instance the Marind Anim of Iryan Jaya/New Guinea.

I doubt there even is any real HISTORICAL precedence of death cults. That's more of a fantasy thing. The closest thing to a death cult would be the "Left hand" tantric followers of Shiva/Kali such as the Kapalikas (skulleaters) among the shiva worshippers and the Thugees among the Kali worshippers.
Kapalikas live in graveyards, use human skulls as food bowls, paint themselves in excrements and so forth because left hand tantrism operates from the belief that one way of showing that the material world is an illusion is through really entrenching oneself in the most vile and disgusting habits. For the same reason there HAVE been Tibetan buddhists who actively engaged in sexual orgies and the like.
(This is opposed to RIGHT handed tantrism that means that since the world is an illusion one should strive to live a pure and ascetic life in order to show ones disdain for it.)
For much the same reason the Thugees used narcotics and strangled travellers.
But none of them really worship DEATH as such.
The british of course claimed the Thugees to be a "death cult" and swiftly rooted them out.

That article has numerous references to Marvin Harris.
Marvin Harris is an anthropologist whose theories (basically based on the assumption that cannibalism is based on lack of animal protein - In the AMAZONAS!!? It's full of animal protein for christs sake!) have beeen disproven numerous times by other anthropologists.
He is one of the foremost proponents of cannibalism among the aztecs and other mesoamerican tribes. And he hasn't had many followers since somewhere in the early seventies when he first presented his "protein theory"

The terminology I use though is not official but simply terms that I've invented on the spot.

Wikipedia is great for checking up some facts but for keeping track of the more recent scientific discussions on certain issues it's not so good.
And cannibalism is a very debated subject.

I remember watching something on discovery about a tribe in africa that still eats the bodies of their enemies after they kill them. For the life of me I can't remember the name though.

as far as i've seen there is very little evidence for wide spread cannibalism
it does seem to be closer to a personal disorder than a societal thing, but in fantasy it's a good way of establishing some character so i say go for it
if it carries of the way it's going this game is gonna be about tribal warfare in jungles/forests, which would not be uncool and would certainly have orginality to it

Crikey, what have I started  icon_eek I was doing the Conan style Canniballistic Cult, not the real life anthropological study of ancient civilizations dietary habits guys  icon_wink

It was just an idea to be able to make the faction more aggressive, and therefore easier to fit into a skirmish game.

Thanks for the lessons Alf, I can tell what your profession is icon_wink

Like Matt said, it's cool so I'll go for it Smile!
