Although sometimes it can turn out quite good.

I did that dwarf around the same time as Mordhiem came out and that shield took a while but it was worth it in the end. The leathers are deceptively simple (blatantly just bestial brown with brown ink on top and no highlighting) but I think it works just fine. I remember that he personaly took out two thirds of an enemy warband once and he didn't have any special skills or profile advances, he was just a bog standard dwarf with an axe, shield, light armour & helmet :).

Nice little guy. I like the design on the shield.

I painted it all brown, then I painted the white pattern on (vaguely greek inspired) completely filling in the verticl gaps so that it was effectively a series of oblongs with a joining line going across the middle like a figure of eight.

And then I painted the gaps back in with the brown. It's probably the best freehand I've ever done (I'm not kidding). I'm so abd at it that I just avoid fiddly freehand stuff altogether but it kind of helps that I like nice simple blocks of colour too :).

He's brill - you managed to invest the little chap with loads of character. I still have a soft spot for those Warhammer Regiments minis.

The shield design is ace.  :clap2:
The questions we should be asking are these:
Does it have dungeons?
Does it have dragons?
Does it have transients who kill things for money?  Do you roll a d20?

Scary thing is that there's no grey in his hair and beard. It's chaos black drybrushed with skull white (applying the drybrushing in varying intensities even if there's a bit of a big white stripe across the middle of his beard that contrasts too much :().

He is great 'though (painted with a very limited palette but it was worth it).

Great little mini, I too have a soft spot for those WHFB regiment guys, was the first box set I bought.
