pre paintslave early gd stuff

just unearthed a few gems whilst looking on the stuff of legends site:





painted in my first year of competition!  these were my first forays into the world of competition painting. i look back and see all he things i did wrong, but they were fairly groundbreaking  for me at the time ( i can remember taking 2 days off work to paint the marine and going through a crate of redbull to keep me going for 14 hours!)

both of them made the cut. 

it's good to see how things have developed.

Nice work. How long ago were these?

How many entries have you done (total)? And how many placed (in which place)?

i've entered GD 3 times with a total of 5 minis (twice in the uk and once in france).  those minis were done in 2004.

i have 4 finalists and 1 of them won a bronze demon in 2005 (the last time i competed)

i have only ever entered 40k single and lotr single mini

Yes, don't you have a fine arts background?  You picked up mini painting quickly and with excellent skills.

yes i used to paint large scale canvasses.  i've always had the steady hand for doing freehand, i just had to train myself to make things smaller and finer.

if you have a steady hand and half decent lighting then all you need is the knowledge and you can churn out some spectacular stuff

sadly no. sonny has one of my gd mini (an esher ganger) so hassle him for a picture of it.  i did an osl gollum that was quite highly rated on coolmini (he was sinking into the lava)

and this one won me a demon:
