How do people put ststic grass on their bases?

I have been using Noch applicators for years, squeezing them like a old fashioned rubber car horn.

I found this a good tutorial.

I use thinned down white glue and then sprinkle and use an old brush to make it stand up...Antenocentinibananawhatsits site is very good! He does supply exceedingly good basing stuff!

Im a sprinkler of grass too.. Although ive been doing industrial bases of late, so no grass application needed.  :icon_sad:

I use thinned down white glue too, when I'm applying static grass.  But I apply the glue to the base in the patches I want the grass to appear, and then dip the base of the miniatures into the box containing my static grass, covering the base completely.

I then gently knock the excess back into the box, and to make the grass stand up by turning the mini upside down and flicking the bottom of the base quite hard three or four times.  If the grass is not quite upright enough, then some gentle blowing tends to sort that out.

The other thing that I tend to do with static grass is put it in patches in the middle of larger patches of regular green flock (of whatever colour I am using), as this tends to make the increase in size of the patch of grass look more natural to me.

I'll not pretend my figures and terrain look as good as Antinociti's, though!

AFTER sealing the mini with dullcote, I paint on straight white glue (pva), then I dump the static grass on it.  I use woodland scenics.  I pile a generous amount of static grass onto the glued area, then pack it in with a pin or a piece of wire to jam it in there densly, and to interrupt the perfect vertical carpet that the static grass likes to make.  Then I hold the mini upside down and tap it hard to shake off the excess and to make the stuff stand up.

When it dries, I drybrush it with bright greens, yellows, or bone white to give it some depth, sometimes I drybrush with a combination of the colors.

PVA in splodges plus dipping works for me,too. I tend to mix Woodland Scenics grasses together to get a more variegated colouration.

For the truly dedicated static-grasser there are electrostatic guns available which negatively or positively charge an entire baseboard and make the whole damn field stand upright. We use one now and again on architectural models. Probably a little bit overkill for a 25mm mini base, though  :icon_eek:

I've just done this with my FoD Single entry for their comp, so I'll just kill two birds with one stone-my first post with my first picture on this site...

Once I've painted everything and sealed it with GW 'ardcoat (thinned with 50-50 water) I place thinned PVA glue to the points where I want the grass to be, then pinch some static grass between thumb and forefinger and shove it into place!!! I always leave it all in place for a good hour to dry before shaking off any excess. Once it's dry I shake off what's loose and check to see it it looks okay. Sometimes it doesn't, so I just repeat what I've done until I'm happy. If it's good first time, though, I tone down the colour of the grass with thinned brown paint (dabbed onto the centre of the grass) to bring the luridness of the green into a more realistic tone.

Finally, I thin down some more 'ardcoat and gently dab it into the grass to make it stand up, harden and protect it.

yup watered down pvc glue, and i use tweezers to pinch a bit of staticgrass then ram it into the glue, wait a few minutes then blow on it to stand it up., then with a toothpick i prop up any grass thants still flat and use the tweezers to pick out any peices that i dont want.
