So, who likes the new Ratlings?

What do you reckon?

As I am pretty keen on the whole 'Sci-Fi-Little-People' thing, I quite like these.  I think that it is refreshing to see GW make Space Halflings that don't look like a poor Tolkein copy with a pan on its head and a chicken drumstick in its hand.  These Ratlings have certainly been to the gym and look really gritty.

I am really quite enthusiastic about them  :icon_cool:.

So...do you like the new concept/departure from the 'norm'?

I'm a big fan of the little people myself and I like the concept of these guys but I'm less keen on the execution. I agree with Bungle on the over buffness, they look like they're constructed entirely of sinews, even the faces. It's taken them a little too far away from the original hobbit/halfling/ratling concept and brought them too close to the scrunt/squat/grymn/dwaaaaaaaaarves iiiiiiiiiiiiin spaaaaaaaaaace look. They're supposed to be gracile snipers and sneakers not front-line grunts. I think they needed to be a happy medium between this and the stereotyped pot-bellied, lunch-munchers, something more like Titus from HF. He may not be as buff but you can't tell me he isn't as threatening.

I like them, buff and all. My only complaint is the feet. Far to "round" looking. Could be a great deal flatter.

I'm glad that there are a few with boots...that means I'll have less to sculpt when I buy some (£11-65 for 6...less than £2-00 each...what's going on at GW?!?).

I quite like the buffness of them as well...it would be even better if the rules reflected this when the codex comes out...but I doubt they will  :shrug:...

...but I don't go by the rules  :icon_w00t:.

Well they are more interesting than the older models, and I'll echo the feet comments.

but id rather have the squats back than this bunch.

I like 'em pretty well.  The biggest problem for me is the faces - they look like half-orcs!?

Maybe I'll get some.  I've got a lot of little people painting to do before I catch up with Inso, though, so it might be a while ... :)

...now I'm going to surprise a few people...I'm glad that the Squats died off.  My reason is that the fluff didn't do the miniatures any justice and the direction that they were going in was just dire...they started as proud 'Stronghold' citizens and turned into short Imperial Guard...With Hells Angels...and Egg-Armour...

Don't get me wrong, the original Squat miniatures (trikes/bikes aside) were cool but they really couldn't get better with the way the fluff was going.

I wouldn't have said it was a massacre of a race, more a merciful release.

Back to the Ratlings, I'm really keen on the heavy sniper rifles they are carrying.  They remind me of the high caliber rifles that our modern snipers use to shoot through engine blocks (like the Barrat).

Well at least they got rid of the stupid baseball caps they put on all of them in the 80's. Where are the squats? If they can ahve ratlings, they can have squats.

Anybody can have squats.  Just check ebay regularly :icon_biggrin2:

Or by Grymn and proxy.  Better sculpts anyway! :)
