Hasslefree Miranda
« on: March 09, 2007, 04:44:30 AM »

Here's Miranda, colourscheme inspired by the Waterhouse original; need to retouch some of the skin, and faff with the hair some more (chestnut glaze?)

the dark blue is glossy as anything, but hopefully dullcote will take that down.

Does it have dungeons?
Does it have dragons?
Does it have transients who kill things for money?  Do you roll a d20?

Looking good! Face is good, have you painted a reflection on the lips or is it glare?

The hair and face are absolutely superb mate, the hands I think are too much of a different shade, I think you have gone for a light effect but I think its slightly too dark a shade on the lower hand.  The dress hopefully will be dulled by the dullcoat, if not its a PVC dress  :icon_w00t:  Great work though mate

The hair looks great already. How did you get that particular tone?

Cheers guys,  :icon_redface:

@ gi6ers - it's painted on as a tiny dot of white a la Jenova but I've since given it a very very dilute dwarf flesh tint cos it looked too stark

@Perv - yeah, the hands are a bit darker - I had to redo her right hand cos it got slightly stained with blue  :icon_evil: so they're being worked on again. PVC dress... mmmm ahem yes anyway moving on...

@Balgin - well it started out as VGC beasty brown bascoat then a mix of that and very old Citadel Hobgoblin Orange from the first paint range and then pure Orange and then a mix of that and VGC Bonewhite. I have since given it several chestnut glazes as it looked a wee bt stark.

Thank you so much again for your postive comments and constructive criticisms - I keep having doubts as to whether or not she's ok so it's great to have the support. This forum and the FoD are what hobby forums should be - friendly people giving constructive advice and support.  :icon_cool:

If it's one of the GW blue's then the shine might not dull down too much even with dullcote, it happened to me with one of the GW blue's.
I use it for Maddogs cloak and it still shined after the dullcote.  :icon_evil:

Gorramit! It is indeed a GW blue albeit a very old one; Marine Dark Blue to be exact.

It's an old paint job of mine but you can see the shine on the cloak.  :icon_tears:

Great work Fabian,

To be honest, looking at it made me imagine her standing on a cliff edge or shale beach staring out to sea, waiting for her loved one to return...................shucks I'm an old romantic at heart really...............

Cool, that's just the feeling I was going for, standing on a pebble beach (mmm looking forward to painting that!  :icon_eek:) looking out to the dark windswept  sea (listening to Seth Lakeman's 'Lady of the Sea' a lot also influenced me). The Waterhouse painting depicts her watching the ship wreck that will bring the mariners to Prospero's island but Kev's sculpt is more thoughtful than that.

Now, where's me TCR?

If i get round to painting mine then it will be in a graveyard setting, either as a grieving widow longing for her lost love or a wraith dammed to wandering the graveyard for all eternity.

I have always liked that sculpt, and combined with the way Fabian painted & based it, it has really been done justice!

Oh goodness me, yes. Hmmm... I'll try dullcote and give that a few coats. If that doesn't take it down enough I have some Vallejo brush on matt. I'll give that a shot. Thanks for the heads up.

@Mike, thanks for encouragement!

I'd save it and just write shiny on it so u know.  It may come in handy in the future, u could use it to paint some PVC pants on yourself and go running through town like it.....crikey where did that thought come from.......
