Well i was given the opportunity to play with Gws new foundation paints the other day.

Well all i can say is i will be picking these up. the coverage is good. I found that i could water these down with no pigment separation. The ability to paint yellow/red and green over black in one coat with no streaking really was a nice touch.

I tryed layering with them, and probably in my hands they werent as good, purely because of the higher pigment content you need to water them down alot to get the blend smooth. But as a base coat and a wash, fantastic.

The only complaint i have is the limited paint range.

These will be great for people who are batch painting armies to table top quality. Believe me when i say i wish these were around when i started my IG army. However a better painter would have to review these for display quality. Despite rumours to the contrary they mix well with other paints, even my VGC/VMC.

Funny isnt it how naughty dentists always make their one fatal mistake.

will have to have a look at those, not heard of them b4.  Will you be adding them to your collection or are they to replace colours u already have?  I mean if the brown is same colour as say Bestial brown, will u buy them both in future or just the new one?

Thanks for the review Kurt. I think I will check them out as well.

since i have VGC/VMC and citadel I probably wouldnt get another brown if i could avoid it. However none of the colours exactly match the current range. They appear to be a shade lighter or darker. Which is good for batch painting, since you know you can use the sameish colour to highlight or shade accordingly.

Its one of the better GW releases in a while. Im becoming a gW ***** lately.

I use Citadel and Coat d'arm paints.  I bought the entire Coat d'arm range as they have so many different greens and browns etc that I find I dont mix up paints that much, in fact hardly ever.  I didnt know about Vallejo at the time but in hindsight I am not annoyed as I find the Coat d'arm ones great and better than GW's in flow and coverage.  I like the Vallejo idea of having a basecoat, shade and highlight already to go but I find I have that anyway with the range of Citadel and Coat paints selection available to me.  As I replace my paints I may go for Vallejo but has anyone used Coat d'arm and Vallejo paints and can say Vallejo is much better?  I like to use paints straight out of the bottle and find I can with Coat d'arm but not so much with Citadel.  Vallejo have the dropper bottles but this means I will have to overuse the paint each time as I have to put it on a pallette wasting a lot of it which puts me off.  Also when paints are old I like to put flow enhancer in them to liven them up and wont be able to do this easily with dropper bottles, do dropper bottles last longer than normal paints?  Even if a paint is unopened I find it still dries up over time so I assume a dropper bottle would too and this puts me off as along with having to use on a palette, I would be going through paint at least twice as fast.  Am I worrying unnecessarily and if not are Vallejo much better that it outweighs my worries?  These new GW paints throw a spanner in the works too lol but I suppose more choice the better......

Saw these is the shop today and they look good, I'm going to buy individually as you don't need that many basecoat colours IMO. Interesting that the store manager showed me that the orange covers black in only 2 coats, I tried explaining the I use zenithal priming and that I don't really paint GW stuff but I think he was already building up to ask me what GW army I collect...

I tried some in store today, and was really impressed - with only a tiny amount of water, the paint glides on like cream, and over a black undercoat the orange really does only require two quick coats for a solid finish. The Stone grey is also fantastic - pleasantly surprised!
The questions we should be asking are these:
Does it have dungeons?
Does it have dragons?
Does it have transients who kill things for money?  Do you roll a d20?

Finally got hold of some of these today, very impressed so far. Not least because the Tallarn flesh seems, at last, like a decent flesh base colour.

Very nice coverage overall, and nice to have some proper earth tone colours at last rather than the more typical citadel dayglo primaries. And dark greys at last! :)

Too many ideas....way too little time...

For army painting ive found that a quick base coat. then ink wash or paint wash to shade then a quick highlight makes for very quick painting. Its not Display quality, but its nice when viewed from above.
