Well, the contractions started on Thursday and she delivered on Tuesday AM....the actual final phase was a mere 13 hours.  Be prepared for a terrifying ride where you are deeply useless and you have to be Mr Calm on the outside. Take snacks and buy a water spray from the garden centre!!!!!!!! (delivery suites are hotter than hell itself)

I hate giving advice but this is a gem.  Once she gives birth you have to be a hero, if she is staying in overnight, go home and sleep and then you'll be ready for hero mode - shopping, cooking, doing the washing, fetching, carrying and everything you can think of including pushing medics into doing what your other half and baby needs doing.  Wetting the babies head can wait 'til they are home and settled.  I was tempted to go and have a few beers last night but you aren't going to be much use if you need to rush back for an emergency.

We had emergency caesarean incesions with all three. With the first one it took 36 hours of useless pain before they started it. She had even stopped breathing when she got out. They soon had her going again though, luckily. With the third we where SUPPPOSED to have a planned incision but he decided to peek out a month early so it became emergency with him to... Thank god for modern hospital care I say. Without it I would have had zero kids and a dead wife.
Ironically enough with the first we started out on a clinic that specialised in "Natural" births. No anaesthetics and all that. That's the reason it took so long before they sent us of for medical care...
