police enforcement mobile HQ WIP
« on: April 06, 2008, 01:31:31 PM »

Dug out an old unreleased kit I made about 13 years back (around the same time as the Marauder AFV I showed you guys here a while back) and tacked it together for some WIP/reassessment shots, attached below. Fluff had it as a mobile police HQ for near-future scenarios. As designed originally it was around 20 pieces, may simplify or change it here and there. Optional armoured visor was part of the original design (shown in raised position in yellow resin in these pics).

Not sure whether to tweak it and remould or whether to go for a major redesign. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I'm not one for vehicles really but I quite like it. Looks nicely robust. My only complaint really is the front, it doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of the style of the sculpt and it's a little bland. Mebbe rework that but the rest of it is fine.

I'd make the front plainer, and add some mesh bits to cover lights etc.

the profiled plasticard all over makes it look a bit like a shed, just a bit over the radiator would be good

Yeah, you're both entirely right. Bungle nailed it - the front doesn't work at all. 13 years on I've got a laser CAD setup, so the excessive use of sheet texture will make less of an appearance :)

make a hatch on the roof?

The domed bit in the middle is it a hatch?

It would be excellent if it was optional to have it open or closed.

A water cannon version for riot control?

The only problem I have is the raised wording of police on the side. Kind of narrowing it to non-military, english speaking only customers.

very easily removed from a model with a file or craft knife. But it does make it easier to paint the words.

yep that front definately needs altering, they look like push buttons that would play a sound if pressed  :icon_w00t:

I quite like the Police on the side. As bungle said it'd be easy to remove if necessary. Maybe have police written on the front too in case you have trouble finding stuff to fill it?  have it written backwards may be an idea?

Exactly the reason I did the raised lettering - knifed off easily if not required - but I take your point, Theo/Perv.

The domed section on the roof is modelled in as a hatch (hinges, etc) and it wouldn't be much work to have an open version. And I'd been toying with the idea of some minor weaponry - water cannon is an obvious choice.

I agree with everything that has been said :)  No lettering, front is too busy, needs a hatch/weapon on top.  Apart from that, it is lovely :D

What scale is it? It could be nice for an Adeptus Arbites squad...

Bob Olley uses Griffin Moulds and he manages to keep the price of metal figs low so their prices must be good.

Figure standing next to it is a Foundry "28mm" mini - he's roughly 32mm to the top of his head.

And we'll more than likely be going to griffin for our white metal casting when we get to that stage. Heard too many good reports not to :)

So it would be perfect for GW minis!
