Help-Weird Computer Issue.
« on: November 19, 2007, 08:29:23 AM »

I had a weird computer issue this weekend.  Basically, I ran an Adaware check and rebooted-when my machine rebooted it would not connect to the internet. Instead it tells me my connection has been unplugged.  Has anyone dealt with this before?  Any ideas?

First thing I'd try would be to "repair" your local area network connection (one of the options on the right mouse button) - and if that didn't work - scan for new hardware.

Ok..ill blow off cable ends and scan for new hardware.  The computer gives me the optiont to "fix" connection-I do so and it says its fine. Retest and it says it isnt being given an IP.  I press fix and it fixes it.  Retry the test and again, cannot get an IP address.

did you get software with your Cable ISP connection?  If so I'd try reinstalling that.  Doubt it will be a physical connection or the cables as nothing changed except that software, it must have screwed something somewhere.  Sounds like its all working but cant connect to you ISP to get an IP Address.  Never dealt with cable internet b4, I only know with modems and routers thru people like BT and Virgin etc.  If in doubt wipe it all off and put on windows from scratch lol  Takes me about 4 hours to install and do all the updates.

If you put windows on from scratch and install all updates and all your necessary software, you can then take an image of hard drive and bung on a cd.  If anything goes wrong you can just restore that image in minutes making it the fastest way of repairing anything.  Not saying you should do this, just may be an idea for people who get lots of problems.  Plenty of imaging software you can dload off bitlord etc.

I've never seen a cable internet setup so thats the only bit of advice I can give him Keeper  :icon_w00t:  Over to you from now on mate :icon_wink:

I would unplug the modem from it's power for a minute, and then plug it back in. Often this re-initializes things for me when I have similar problems.
