So I've got one of these on the way:

Do I paint her as a larger scale dwarf or go with the dark skinned fire giant? (She's 60-70mm i think)

Keeper

Giant Dwarf, would be the way I'd go.  But I can see the appeal of painting her as a Fire Giant.  That doesn't really help does it?  Sorry about that.

OK - I've had a coffee now, so I can be more useful.  Fire Giant is what I think.

Is that better? :D

Perv

Fire Giant for me too, face just isnt Dwarvish enough to make it work  :icon_wink:

gi6ers

ok, so what does a fire giant look like? Any pics folks? Is that a stone weapon? Bronze/Steel armour? Hair and skin colour?

Keeper

Dark skin and yellow, orange or red hair, is what I normally think.  I think I prefer steel armour, but bronze or brass or gold elements would seem to work.

Google Image Search for "Fire Giant":

Not an expert but am sure its steel weapons and armour and plenty of yellows reds and oranges.  Red\Orage hair is a definate for that figure IMHO.  Normal skintones but could be wrong.....

gi6ers

Red hair sounds like a good shout, anyone got a decent recipe that won't end up like a GW mohican dwarf..?

Perv

how about going from scab red to blood red on the hair, no orange highlight.  On the metals though use an orange ink after to give them a hot magical look?

Keeper

I was going to suggest starting at a 50:50 Scab Red Black mix to start, then working up from there.  Even with a (little) dark orange highlight, it shouldn't look slayerish.  You could always use some TCR, or a red wash to tame it if it goes a bit Gotrek.

That would probably be more ideal for Gi6ers and his techniques.  I'd basecoat scab red, highlight blood red, thin black ink wash, highlight blood red again.  There wouldnt be enough depth though for Gi6ers I dont think.

Look, this might come as a surprise but... There ARE no fire giants for real... I think...?  :icon_wink:
So anything should be right shouldn't it?

How about going for an obsidian weapon? (greenish black I think...) the ornamentation of it looks like it could be one (or rather jade but jade would be useless in a weapon) and obsidian is a lava biproduct isn't it? So it would be most right for a firegiant.
I'd go for black red and orange for a fiery look. Armor a reddish gold/copper.

I love this sculpt... now. When I first saw it I thought "What was mr. Klocke thinking?" Then I saw a wonderful painted version and the heavyset legs and all just looked so right. So I'll really be looking forward to seeing your version of it.

Good call.  An obsidan spear would look great :D

she turned up today, really well done in multi-part. the head and cloak are one part, then it's the body and hands/weapon.

Will post a WIP soon, probably the weekend as I'm on company drinking duty for the next day or so  :icon_beer:

@Bodhi - I agree, this has been on my buying list for a while. Hopefully I'll do it justice but there is always the stripping pot  :icon_cool:
