Draconic sage

The draconic sage is a rare kind among dragons. Just as other dragons hoard gold and jewels the draconic sage hoards knowledge, books and scrolls.
For this reason they are most sought after by both wizards and scholars. Usually able to answer questions of the most esoteric kind some seek it out for advice. For the draconic sage can be bargained with and will exchange knowledge for knowledge though it's answers can often be cryptical and hard to understand. It will NEVER exchange books and scrolls for any price but has on rare instances been known to write a contract requesting a high price - often in blood - for the lending out of rare tomes.
Some would also seek it out for the less noble purpose of stealing its possesions and those will soon discover that the draconic sage can be just as lethal as it's more materialist brethren.

Yes... I who have a number of times stated that I would NEVER sculpt a dragon have in fact started on one but hopefully one that will be of a slightly different type. I don't really dislike dragons as such I dislike the fact that everybody seems to consider themselves experts on how they SHOULD look which makes the subject rather narrowing.

WIP Pics coming up. What do you think of the idea? Essentially it's what all good librarians would wish that they could be - not just giving a symbolic fine for delayed books  :icon_mrgreen:

My gf is a librarian - she can be fearsome!
The questions we should be asking are these:
Does it have dungeons?
Does it have dragons?
Does it have transients who kill things for money?  Do you roll a d20?

Custom_Hobby

Sounds like a great idea (but we all know I am biased when it comes to dragons).  So what does he look like or do you want him to look like?

Will he be wearing spectacles on the end of his snout (the "sign" of sage)

No but he's very inspired by those evil guys in the old Jim Henson movie "Dark crystal", so vaguely vulture like, and I'm thinking of doing a "pile of books and scrolls" base for him.

That would be a great look for a Draconic Sage. I am really looking forward to this one.

Do you sketch it out or just have an image in your head to work from.

Heh,Dark Crystal was the film that got me into modelmaking for a living :) The models and sets were on exhibition at my local art gallery at the point when I was trying to choose a career...very much a case of "I can get paid to make stuff? Fantastic...."

Back on topic..... :icon_ermm:

Neither really. I bend the wire, put some putty on and see where it leads me. Usually an idea starts creeping up after a while. That's the way I mostly do it.
Sometimes after I have a basic pose I DO make a sketch based on that but most often not.
But I really do want to start sketching again. I'm working my way along an online human anatomy sketching course and think I'll start visiting live drawing sessions with a model on wednesday evenings now that my wife is back (in two hours from now) and I'll start to be able to do things in the evenings. It's been a long and humbling "single parent" experience for the past five months.
