Entrance to Dwarf Hold
« on: September 06, 2007, 05:54:05 PM »

I've just finished and primed the entrance to my Dwarf hold for my diorama.  It needs the big doors but gives you an idea of what I am after MIke.  I will give u a picture and measurements of what i want soon but it just needs to be stuck above the steps on the wall

Very cool, hirst blocks seem really versatile. Just about anything can be built with the right combination!
Look forward to seeing it painted :)

hopefully will be finshed by next week, except for the main door but that can be added whenever.

Yeah those Hirst arts moulds are great but I seem to want 1 or 2 bricks from each mould.  I am going to put in another order for 4 more moulds.  I have 5 already !!!

How big are the blocks roughly? They seem to look alot bigger than they are.

The whole thing is 10" by 5" so each brick would be 1" wide.  U dont just have single bricks though, in the Basic blocks mould u get 3 bricks joined together and 2 bricks joined together so u can work quicker.  sticking each block individually would drive me mad !!!  With all the curves and decorative bits u really can make anything and even someone as inexperienced as me can come up with decent results  :icon_wink:

you might want to look into chipping a few of the blocks before you get into painting. I know it's tough to beat up a perfectly good piece, but it really does add to the realism.

The old aged look, maybe from having repelled a few assaults over the years.

lol Theomar I've only just started doing perfect bricks mate, now u want me to chip them?  I will do on pieces further out in the diorama but this section is the entrance to the main hold under the mountain and its the only bit that isnt going to look worn and damaged (enemies never made it this far) but on the outer perimetres I will have damaged stones and collapsed pieces.  Its 6' by 6' so plenty of room for other stuff and I just want this bit to be the grandest place but the rest will be a working living fortress.  I will work out some decoration to put on the stands between the pillars and I will put original Flame Cannons either side of the steps but painted in gold effect to symbolise this is the Kings area.  Thats why I want the door to be very grand and ornate, the doors at the main entrance will be big stone ones and very axe-chipped  :icon_wink:

I wont build it all out of these blocks Mike, its going to be mountains around the sides and the fortress will be sort of sculpted into the mountains.  The mountains I will use pink foam to sculp the shapes and I will use the blocks to make walkways and towers and stuff but it will look as though its been mainly carved out of the mountain itself and not been built up

This is my first proper diorama and they say dont go for something big as its too much to bite off.  Therefore I am going to make it in lots of smaller dioramas and just slot them into the main thing to create a big one.  fitting every single figure into it is going to be the hardest obstacle I think as the dioramas I make have to be able to use all the figures and their various poses effectively.....thank god for the Perry Bros and their creativity !!!!

Heres the door that I need made:

Doesnt have to be exactly like that but something along those lines.  6cm wide by 7cm high by 3mm thick\deep

should set it off nicely  :icon_wink:  Need something to go on the stands in the middle of pillars, something gold and ornate and Dwarvish.  2 of the same I think, not different ones....us Dwarves like consistency  :icon_w00t:  Cant think what though.....

You are going to love the doors because I am going to gold leaf them.
