QuoteIt's high time we rescued this pitiable old paintjob.

So I've recently re-undercoated and re-painted his beard, face and hand. I've also undercoated and partialy painted the sword before sticking it on his back. I also put a splodge of black on the old nag's neck to remind me she needs repainting too.

The current plan is to mount him on a big round base (yeah, nightmare dismantling that one with the small "warpstone" gems and the sheet wax intended for candle decorations that I used to build up the ground). It's also going to be a nightmare to dismantle since I copied the Wayne England "rearing horse conversion" where you chop off the hooves, carve a chuink off the back of the ankle, then stick them back on again. Only I didn't do it with a metal horse but a plastic one, and I didn't pin it. And the hooves are fairly solidly embedded in the wax (intentionaly done at the time to add strength to the joint).

I've even got 074308/25 lying around somewhere (he was due to be Sancho when a heavily converted version of BC3/1 (from the same page, with the lance arm from a chaos warrior and the legs severely carved and repositioned) was going to be the orignal Senior Alonzo Quihana. Then the big Gwuh brought out this knight for Mordheim and he's just perfect for the job.

Now because I got gived a camera for kissymass I wented and tooked some pictures today (at 4 in the afternoon when it was overcast and dark). I'm not sure what I'll do with the armour. I can't remember if they'd made Boltgun Metal when I painted this. I strongly suspect that it's chainmail heavily drybrushed over black. The only reason I'm trying to remember is that the knight on foot never got painted and some continuity would be nice.

So the idea is to have him in the middle of a round base with poor old Rocinante rearing up at the sight of warpstone shards bursting up through the ground and Sancho Panza doing the sort of showman "look at my mad master" thing with his extended arm there. Unfortunately it's the wrong arm so it looks more like he'll be remonstrating with his master (facing towards him) as, compositionaly, I think he'll look better near the back legs and on the side the knight's facing.

I intend to keep the red on the saddle but I'll be redoing the yellow (snakebite leather base then abright brown/yellow colour painted on neat as a single highlight). Boots and stirrups will be easy. I keep wanting to do a blue shirt but I don't want to do his trousers a bland brown colour, or red, since the saddle's red. I don't want to do a red shirt because I don't want ti standing out too much as he'll have a shield on his left arm anyway. I'm also going to be doing the sword's scabbard red so a red shirt would clash there too.

Can anyone suggest a colour for the trousers? Can anyone suggest an alternative Sancho Panza? Whatever I do it'll still be better than the ghastly Hell Dorado Don Quixote miniature. What an unappealing rider (although someone was asking for a V for Vendetta mask face recently and this one looks angular enough to come pretty close). And that game's becoming popular at the club and as son as I found out The Don was not only a fieldable character but that he was also a warband leader I had to dig out this old knight, dust him off and give him a propper paintjob.

So heres' the pictures I took with my new (very flash trigger happy) camera that I'm not used to using yet as it's very different to my sister's.

Front & Back

A couple of head shots (badly lit)

A couple of bleached out "flash killed" headshots. Yes it looks demented but the eyes actualy are that wonky on the original sculpt too so I'm not entirely to blame.

It's hard to focus on the head as the camera keeps choosing the horse's neck of the "pennant" dangling from the lance as the focal point instead. I'll probably be able to do it when I've got the hang of the more advanced camera stuff but these pictures will have to do for now.

Sorry Balgin, I'm a bit confused.  Is it just the knight that you're re-painting?

I'd suggest a earthy green or a leather brown for the trousers.  I'd also suggest some work on the horse as it is completely at odds with the knight.  Especially that terrible neck joint that was the bane of all of these old GW plastic horses!

Keep it up, though and I think you'll do a good job.

As a PS, I couldn't help but notice that on the dwarf page, I currently have 074308/20 Dwarf Hunter on my painting table, which I will be using for skirmish-type VSF; Colonial; Darkest Africa; and Victorian Stargate games :D

I've had him for a while too. Considered converting him as a cricket player.

I'm definitely repainting the horse as well (and rebasing too).
